4th December

As Jaehyun sweated it out at dance practice, the others snuck into his and Riwoo's house, buzzing with excitement. The backyard transformed into a party zone, with balloons and streamers fluttering in the wind.

Taesan and Leehan lounged in the patio chairs, sipping their drinks with an air of self-importance. "We deserve to rest after working hard," Taesan declared, earning a chuckle from his boyfriend.

The truth was, they did not do any work at all.

Meanwhile, Matthew carefully piped icing onto the cake, following Riwoo's instructions. "You're really good at this Matt!" Riwoo exclaimed as Matthew nodded intently.

Woonhak and Taerae worked together to hang the banners, their banter and laughter filling the air. Sungho flitted between the groups, lending a hand wherever needed.

As they worked, the atmosphere grew more festive, with music and chatter mingling together. They were all eager to surprise Jaehyun and make his birthday unforgettable.

The backyard was a flurry of activity as the group worked together to set up the surprise party. Woonhak climbed the ladder, carefully positioning the banner along the fence. Taerae held the ladder steady, or at least, he was supposed to.

As Taerae's attention wandered, his grip on the ladder relaxed, and Woonhak's eyes widened in alarm. "HYUNG-" Woonhak's voice trailed off as he teetered precariously on the ladder.

Taerae's eyes snapped back to the ladder, and with a sheepish grin, he grabbed the ladder, holding it in place. Woonhak let out a relieved breath, his glare softening into a wry smile. "Thanks, I guess."

Sungho, who had been watching the exchange, chuckled and shook his head. "You two are something else." He ambled over to the kitchen door, poking his head inside. "Hey guys how's the cake coming along?"

Riwoo and Matthew were busy adding the finishing touches to the cake. Riwoo beamed with pride as he stepped back to admire their handiwork. "What do you think? Does it look like a birthday cake?"

Matthew nodded enthusiastically. "Of course it looks amazing, Riwoo! Jaehyun will love it."

Sungho grinned, impressed. "You guys are talented. I can barely bake."

Riwoo chuckled, glancing at the clock on the wall. "We should get the cake outside. Jaehyun will be home any minute now."

Sungho's eyes widened in alarm. "Oh is it that late already?" He quickly ushered Matthew and Riwoo out of the kitchen, cake in hand. "Let's get moving, guys!"

As they made their way to the backyard, Taerae was busy kicking Taesan's chair, trying to rouse him from his lounging position. "Come on, get your ass up! We need to get into position." Woonhak chuckled at his actions.

Taesan opened one eye, regarding Taerae with a lazy smile. "What's the hurry? The party can't start without Jaehyun, anyway."

Leehan, who had been quietly observing the exchange, snickered. "You're just making excuses because you're too comfortable."

Taesan shrugged, unrepentant. "Hey, someone's got to provide the relaxation inspiration."

Meanwhile, inside the house, Jaehyun pushed open the front door, calling out his usual greeting. "I'm home! Riwoo, I'm starving! What's for dinner? Are we cooking tonight?"

Riwoo's response was a bit off, his smile a tad too wide, his eyes sparkling with a mischievous glint. "Uh, dinner can wait. Why don't you come see what's outside first?"

Jaehyun's confusion deepened, but he shrugged, dropping his bag on the floor. "Okay, sure. What's going on?"

Riwoo's grin grew even wider as he gestured for Jaehyun to follow him. "Just come see."

As Riwoo led Jaehyun to the backyard, the sounds of chatter and laughter grew louder. Jaehyun's eyes widened in surprise as he took in the scene before him. The backyard was transformed into a vibrant party zone, complete with balloons, streamers, and a giant banner that read "Happy Birthday Jaehyun!"

Jaehyun's friends were all there, beaming with smiles as they shouted "Surprise!" in unison. Jaehyun's face lit up with joy as he took in the sight of his friends, all gathered together to celebrate his special day.

"I...I can't believe you guys planned this," Jaehyun stuttered, his voice filled with emotion.

Riwoo grinned, clapping Jaehyun on the back. "Of course we did! You deserve it!"

The group cheered and chanted as Riwoo led Jaehyun to the cake, a magnificent creation adorned with candles and colorful frosting. Jaehyun blew out the candles, and the group erupted into applause as they cut into the cake.

As they celebrated, Jaehyun's heart swelled with gratitude and happiness. He felt seen and loved, surrounded by the people who mattered most to him.

Jaehyun's POV:

As I looked around at my friends, all smiling and laughing together, I felt a deep sense of happiness wash over me. It was more than just a birthday party – it was a celebration of our friendship, of the bonds we'd formed over the past four years.

I thought back to our high school days, when we were all just trying to navigate adolescence together. We'd been through ups and downs, laughter and tears, and yet, here we were, still standing, still together.

As I gazed at my friends, I realized that I wasn't just happy – I was at peace. I knew that no matter what life threw our way, I could count on these people to be there for me.

And in that moment, surrounded by the people I loved, I knew that I was exactly where I was meant to be. I was happy, truly happy, and that was all that mattered.

I am finally happy.

3rd person's POV:

As the night wore on, the house grew quiet once more. Riwoo and Jaehyun settled into their bed, the soft glow of the bedside lamp casting a warm light over the room. Jaehyun lay on his back, staring up at the ceiling as Riwoo snuggled in beside him.

Riwoo propped himself up on one elbow, gazing down at Jaehyun with a curious expression. "Hey, what's on your mind?" he asked softly.

Jaehyun's eyes drifted closed, a small smile playing on his lips. "I'm just really thankful," he said, his voice shaking slightly as he looked up to the ceiling once more. "For everything," he said, his voice cracking. "For our friends, for our life here, for...for you." His voice broke, and he felt a lump form in his throat.

Riwoo's face blurred as Jaehyun's eyes welled up with tears. He felt a sob rising up, and he tried to swallow it back, but it was no use. The tears spilled over, streaming down his face as he cried.

Riwoo's arms wrapped tightly around him, holding him close as Jaehyun sobbed. "I'm thankful too," Riwoo whispered, his voice filled with emotion. "I'm thankful for our friends, for the adventures we've had, and for finding you." He paused, his voice cracking. "You're my person, Jaehyun. My best friend, my partner...my everything."

Jaehyun's sobs slowly subsided, replaced by ragged breaths. He felt Riwoo's warm breath on his skin, his arms wrapped tightly around him. Jaehyun's heart swelled with love and gratitude, and he knew that he was exactly where he was meant to be.

Riwoo's voice was laced with amusement as he whispered, "We should probably sleep before you end up fully crying and waking up all puffy tomorrow morning."

Jaehyun's laughter was shaky, but it was genuine. He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to Riwoo's forehead. "I love you," he whispered.

Riwoo's arms tightened around him, holding him close. "I love you too," he whispered back.

As they drifted off to sleep, wrapped in each other's arms, Jaehyun knew that this was what happiness felt like.
