Chapter Thirty

Ethan

"We have to do something. They left a dead wolf near our border" Remi shakes his head, crossing his arms over his chest. "They killed one of their own just so they couldn't have freedom E. We can't let this stand"

"I know" I run my fingers through my hair, which is gonna turn grey from all the stress of everything happening right now.

"What are we going to do?"

"Prepare" I let out a heavy breath and shift through the papers on my desk. "We have almost double the wolves as them. We can take them, but it doesn't mean we storm they're lands and declare war. For one, that would give them the upper hand. Two, we need to get ready. A battle doesn't just happen. We need to get our strongest women and men out there, so no one else gets hurt"

"Ethan-"

"Our strongest" I repeat, "You'll be here, Rem."

"That's so fucking backwards and you know it!" Remi pushes to his feet, and Max- Remi's mate does the same. "Why?"

"Because your training has been amazing, and you can hold your own, you're good. But you're practicing. If i were to throw random movies at you you would get too caught off guard. Max will go in your place"

Remi glares at me, but then he takes a deep breath. Max is a fighter, he's done border work and he's gone up against me, and won. He's gone up against dad and won- he's a good fighter.

Remi agrees, and I can tell by the way he lets out a breath and his eyes cut to his mate. "Max will be the one to come up with the battle plans" Remi decides.

"I agree. I was going to say the same" Max has a knack for it, and I really think he could be a general of something someday. He will be here today, I suppose.

"Thank you, Alpha. I will do very fuckin well. I swear it to the goddesses" Max pulls me into him, and hugs me. It's one of those weird bro hugs, but he does it then lets me go. "Thank you man" and then he's turning to Remi. He hoists him up and hugs him tightly, Remi has a small smile as Max says some cheesy shit i try to block out.

They kiss, and then Max is quickly leaving. "You really don't think I could hold my own in a real fight?" Remi asks, after the silence is too much.

"I think you could for a time period. But i don't think you're ready for this battle, Remi"

"And if I can prove I am before it comes?"

"Then you and i will fight side by side"

"Promise me, E"

"I promise"

"Okay. Thank you for doing that for him. It means a lot to him. It's all he's ever wanted. So thank you"

"I'd do anything for you, and that extends to him for as long as you guys are.. Together" I get up from behind my desk and make my way to the door. "Are you busy?"

"What's up?"

"Connor" the one word almost brings me to tears, but Remi nods and shuts the door. I sit in the chair Max was in and Remi sits besides me.

"He told me he thinks he imprinted on his friends there.. What if he did? What if he never wants to come back to me?" I swallow down the roughness in my throat, and blink back my tears. "What if we're not enough when he comes back?"

"You can't think like that. What would Linda say?" Remi grabs my hands, and squeezes them. "He's probably thinking you won't want him, or thinking negative thoughts like this. You have to challenge them, and yourself" Remi's years of therapy paid off, for me anyways. Because he's right.
