"Okay, thank you all for coming," Ethan announces, glancing at me. He looks around the room. Remi, Max, Noah and Xan are all here, in Ethans office. He called us to a meeting. "I just wanted to give an update, and see where everyone is at and maybe give more assignments. For starters, the second pack house is coming along wonderfully. We're expected to be done by the beginning of summer. I have a couple women who have found themselves with pups. We need to get them into counseling, and helping them with resources. These pregnancies.. Aren't from consensual activities."

"How many women?" I ask, swallowing the bile rising.

"6" Ethan answers by holding eye contact. "One teen. She's 15" my heart breaks, and i have to blink away my tears.

"I'll take them to their therapy appointments." Xan offers.

"I'll take the teen" I add in "And i could take one of them women, so you can have 5" i offer, and Xan grins.

"I love that idea. It's perfect"

"We also have some kids that need a healthy outlet and to get set up with therapy" Ethan says, "I propose Connor takes over the mental health of the children with Xan as his helper"

My heart takes off, and my spine stiffens. "I think that's a great idea," Xan adds. "I think we can get a part of the clinic sectioned off for the wolves from the border. It'll be easier to talk to them all and see what kind of concerns parents have."

"Actually-" I take a slow breath because i don't think i deserve this, but i need to say my thoughts. "I think we should have a first meeting without the parents. Everyone's mental health matters, but these kids? We need to hear they're voices without the parents shouting over them"

Everyone goes quiet for a moment.

"I think that's a great idea" Noah chimes in. "I think parents tend to overshadow they're kids even if they don't mean to. I think we need to protect our members, and that means the pups too. But I don't think we should just focus on the border members" Noah stands up, and crosses the room to come my way. "There's a lot of our members who suffer from some sort of abuse. Mental, physical.. And sexual. We haven't been there for them in the past" Noah slowly sinks down to one knee, and it registers that he's talking to me. "I- I let you down, Connor. As an alpha, a protector, and a father. Instead of getting you out of a situation you were in, I did what I thought was best.. I uh. I sent your parents on a mission that had only one ending. No matter what."

My brows furrow, and I feel uneasy filling me.

"I didn't protect you when I knew what was happening." Noah's words knock the air out of my lungs.

"You.. send my parents to die?"

"Yes"

"Y-you killed them?" Everyone is silent, and I can feel the tension building in the room.

"Yes" Noah looks at Ethan, and I swear my heart stops.

"You knew?" Ethan opens his mouth, but closes it. Then nods. Tears prick my eyes, and then Remi speaks up.

"I know this is terrible, but I just got an alert. There's more people at the border. Oh my goddess, it's three to five families. We gotta go" Remi glances at me, and then to Xan. "I'm so sorry. We can't leave them there for long though-"

"I know the policy" I snap, and get to my feet. Then we're all leaving.

We helped sort out the families, and set them up where we could. We have a lot of spare rooms in the packhouse from moving people around. We're walking back to Ethan's truck when I stop him. "Hey" I break the silence. We haven't talked about..
