Morning sunlight streamed through the window, painting the small dorm room in a soft glow. Sae stirred first, blinking groggily as his brain struggled to catch up. He shifted slightly, realizing that his head was still resting against Shidou's shoulder.
Sae sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose, and his body tensed for a moment as the events of last night came flooding back. They'd stayed up late, but he relaxed again into Shidou's warmth, letting out a small sigh. Shidou, of course, was still dead asleep, his arm draped possessively over Sae.
The peaceful moment shattered as the dorm door swung open with a creak.
"Yo, Sae, we were thinking—" Rin's voice cut off mid-sentence, his eyes locking on the scene before him. Beside him, Isagi froze in the doorway, mouth slightly ajar as he processed what he was looking at.
Sae's head snapped up, the remnants of sleep instantly replaced by a mix of panic and irritation. Shidou groaned softly but didn't wake, his head tilting closer to Sae's as if unconsciously seeking him out.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Sae hissed, his voice sharp but quiet enough not to wake Shidou.
Rin's expression twisted into a mix of disbelief and judgment, his brow furrowing as he crossed his arms. "I live here, genius. What are you doing? And with him?"
Isagi, as if on queue, crossed his arms to match Rin's movements, eyeing the pair up and down. "You two look... cozy."
Sae shot him a glare so icy it could have frozen the sun. "Shut up."
"Well," Rin drawled, leaning against the doorframe, growing more and more amused at the sight. "This is new."
Sae groaned softly, swinging his legs off the couch to sit upright. "Do you ever knock?"
"Do you ever lock the door?" Rin shot back, his tone even, but let out a slight smirk as he elbowed Isagi, as if they were enjoying picking at Sae's misfortune. "Didn't think I needed to for my own dorm."
"Oh, please," Sae scoffed. "It's like I've never walked in on you and Isagi all cuddled u-"
"Good morning to you, too," Shidou said lazily as he cut him off, sitting up and stretching. His golden hair stuck out in wild directions, and his grin was as irreverent as ever. Sae face palmed.
Isagi snickered from the doorway, finally stepping inside. "How was the sleepover, Shidou?"
"Fucking incredible," Shidou replied, a mischievous smirk plastered his face before he flashed a grin at Rin, who was watching him like one might a stray cat that had wandered into the house. "Your brother's quite the company, Rin-chan."
"Don't call me that," Rin said immediately, his voice sharp.
Shidou raised his hands in mock surrender. "Touchy, touchy. I'm just trying to bond with the family."
Rin's eyes flickered to Sae. "Is this really what we're doing now?"
Sae sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "If you're here just to criticize my choices, Rin—"
"I'm not," Rin cut him off smoothly, before eyeing Isagi. "If you want, Isagi and I can head off..."
"No," Sae said quickly, though his tone carried more weariness than certainty. "It's not what it looks like..."
Shidou's grin widened, wrapping his arm around Sae. "Oh, it's exactly what it looks like."
Before Rin could respond, Isagi huffed dramatically, his voice cutting through the growing tension. "Well, I'm starving. You guys continue going back and forth while I make some breakfast, ok?"
