40. How could she?

Sofia's pov:

Dusting off the old cupboard, I knew it was time. Time to clean the entire apartment. I couldn't bear to stay in that mess any longer. Just a day after the incident, I left Russia and moved to Italy. Adrik had asked where I wanted to go, and I'd chosen Italy because of its rich history and beautiful culture. I couldn't book the tickets myself, as Ansh might have found out, so Adrik did it for me as he had promised me. Luckily, Mr. Smith had an apartment there and offered it to me without hesitation when she knew I was here.

How quickly things change. Yesterday, I had a family, the family I'd always dreamed of. And today I'm here,  far away from them, carrying a new life within me. What game destiny is playing with me?

I have no one. No one to hold me, no one to guide me. And now how things are going to be. I have no idea how I'll manage this baby, but I know one thing: I'll protect my baby. It's innocent, and maybe, just maybe, it will give me a reason to keep going.

Also I have to look for a job ,I have to look for myself as fast as possible. I have already applied for an interview when I was on the flight. And my application got selected. I have to go for an interview tomorrow. I hope it goes well.

Everything is over, but still, why does my heart feel something's wrong? I haven't done anything wrong, then why? The man who cheated on me acted like I did it & slapped me in front of his entire family. I'll never forgive him for that.

I took a deep breath before entering the office. It's a prestigious company, known throughout Italy.
Never in my childhood I imagined that, I would be interviewing for jobs like this. Something has truly changed my life and I'm thankful for it.

The staff checked me in, and I headed towards the boss's cabin. I heard she's a woman, but I don't know anything about her

I pressed the bell, and the door opened. I entered and greeted.
"Good morning."
She was sitting in a chair, her back to me. After hearing my voice, she turned around.

My eyes widened. How could this be? How could she be here?

She was 'Bella Martino'.

She looked at me, gave a warm smile, and gestured me to sit. I took my seat and shook my hand with her.
"Sofia Ellis,"
I introduced.

Bella took my file to review my progress, my courses, and my academic qualifications.

After reviewing my file, Bella finally spoke.
"Sofia, you're truly talented,"
she said, placing the file aside.

"I wouldn't have thought twice about offering you this job,"
she began,
"but now I have a question."

"Thanks ma"am, I would like to answer your question"
I said.

"So, Sofia, if I'm not wrong, you were handling the finance department at Ansh Oberoi's company,"
Bella said.

"Yes"

"So, what made you leave it all of a sudden and join here? May I know the reason?"
Bella asked.

"Well, due to some personal reasons, I had to leave Russia and come here. So, I was in need of a job,"
I replied.

Bella's smile faltered slightly, a flicker of doubt passing through her eyes.
"But it was your husband's company after all"

Okay,  She knows I'm his wife, isn't she angry?

She continued
" How can I trust you with my company? What if you leak my company's data? You could be a spy."

Her doubt is obvious. Even I didnt know that I would end up  her company.
"Mrs. Martino, you can check my history. I've never compromised on ethics or integrity in my professional life. I've always strived for excellence and honesty. I assure you, I would never betray your trust."

I knew she would not offer me this job  at any cost.
"Thank you,"
I said, taking my file and turning to leave.

"Stay still,"
she said, her voice firm.

"I don't want to lose the opportunity of having people like you in my company. You'll be working with us. But remember, Sofia, one wrong move, and you'll regret it."

Is it true what I just heard?
"Thank you Mrs Martino. I appreciate the opportunity"
I replied confidently.

With that, I left the office. I'll be working with her from tomorrow, but she knew who I was. Still, she kept me on the job. Isn't there any hidden motive? I know I'm a bit stupid to work with her. She's the woman with whom Ansh cheated on me, but my heart says she's innocent. Well, that doesn't change the reality. I'll leave the job once I find a new one.
