My car broke down.

Halfway to school. I cuss and pick up my phone, dialing my dad's number.

He picks up after two rings. "Hey, pumpkin!" He says too- enthusiastic.

"Don't call me that," I roll my eyes. "My car broke down."

"Well I'm sorry to hear that, anything I can do?"

"I need you to pick me up."

"Sorry kiddo, at a meeting," he stops talking, acknowledging someone else. "Listen, Tessa I gotta go."

"Wait how am I supposed to-" he hangs up.

I look around, I'm about five miles away from school and it starts in 30 minutes, I'm already late so I have no clue how late I will be.

I sigh and get out of my car.

I start to walk.

***

After around fifteen minutes of walking, and I know I'm already late,
a white jeep pulls up in front of me.

I stop, not sure wether to get into the car.

"Well, well, well," I sigh and see Vanessa," how come every time we bump into each other we're both late?"

I laugh and walk towards her jeep. I've always wanted one, but my mom would always say it's no car for a lady. So instead they got a a Porsche. Yeah, 'cause that's really girly-girl. But it was a Porsche, so I didn't complain.

"How late are we?" I ask, climbing into the car. She brushes her black hair into a pony-tail and looks at me with her black eyes.

"Late," she steps on the gas and drives.

I was listening to Nirvana when I realized we past the school. I snap up.

"Wait, what are you doing?" I panic,"We passed it."

"I'm aware," she pulls out a box of cigarettes, her dark fingers pulling one out. She sees my shocked expression and laughs. "I take it you don't smoke?"

I frown,"No. Now please turn around so I can learn."

"I think we both know you don't want to go to school," she raised her eyebrows and pulls out a lighter, her unlit cigar in her mouth.

"Why would you think that?" I ask, crossing my arms. She lights her cig, making me cough loudly.

"Well, I overheard Macy and her crew of bitches that they were gonna dump some sort of liquid over your head during lunch."

I'm shocked. "What makes you think they won't just do it tomorrow?"

"Because today is when for five minutes exactly the teachers stop observing us," she sees I don't believe her and continues. "They all go outside and smoke." She sees I'm still confused. "All the teachers that are watching us are smokers, so when all of them get together, they all go outside and smoke." She sounds frustrated.

I mouth and O.

"And how exactly do you knew this?"

"God, you and a lot of questions," she seems annoyed, but by the amusement in her eyes, I could tell she didn't mind. "I'm an observant person." She smirks and I sigh, looking out the window.

After a few minutes of awkward silence, I speak up. "So where exactly are we going?"

"What is the number one Amusement park in Florida?" She looks at me.

"No," I say, shocked.

She just smiles. Blowing smoke out her window.

"No!" I say again.

"Disney Land," she clarifies.

"Woo!" I throw my hands up.

"How long ago did you plan this!"

"Two days ago, when I heard they were gonna do that messed up shit," she smiles.

"You don't even know me," I say it more of a question than a statement.

"You're rich, you'll come in handy one day," she smiles. "And ya know, it'll help my bad-girl rep. Make me seem more sensitive, guys love bad girls that help the needy."

"I'm not so sure about that."

She laughs and hands me my ticket whole breathing in her cigarette.

I smile and look up at all the rides, grabbing a map at the entrance.

"How much you got on you?" Vanessa turns to me.

I almost never carry cash but today I didn't have lunch money for school so I have a hundred. "100," I state without looking at her.

"Why the hell do you have $100 on you?" She frowns.

"Didn't have lunch money, don't like paying often, bring a lot at one time." I search the map, looking for good rides.

She laughs.

I ignore her and tug on her arm. And realize what I'm doing. I'm ditching.

I look down at myself. I'm still wearing my school uniform.

I gasp and pull Vanessa behind a small ticket booth. She yelps and almost drops her phone. "What?" She yells.

I motion to our uniforms, if we had these on, we were bound to get caught. I'm surprised they didn't catch us when we gave them our tickets. She just laughs. "Why do you think I brought this?" She hands me a back-pack with clothes. I sigh and drag her to the closest bathroom.

I take out the clothes and look at her with a really? expression.

She notices,"What?"

"Really?" I pull out the outfits. Both are short-shorts and tank tops.

She didn't seem to understand. "What's the problem? They're cute!"

"Whatever, did you pack sunscreen?" She nods.

"Good." I grab a pair of shorts and a tank top and open a bathroom stall.

"Shit!" We drop. Vanessa is screaming extremely loud. I laugh, scared myself but not as scared as her.

Legend of the Forbidden Mountain ended. We didn't have to wait long in line because it was still early. And because it was a school day.

"I'm not doing that again," Vanessa's ponytail was now a mess, we've only been here for around an hour but we already rode around fifteen rides.

Soon it was lunch and since Vanessa payed for my ticket, I was paying for lunch. We sat at a small booth in 50's Prime Time Café.

I laughed as Vanessa and I had a competition who could drink the milkshake faster. I won. Halfway through she had it coming out of her nose. I snapped a picture with my phone while she coughed like a mad-man.

I've never had so much fun in a long time. In fact, I don't remember having any fun as a kid. It was always my parents finding new things for me to do but I hated all of them.

"So Blackwell," Vanessa stuck her spoon into her chocolate ice cream. "What's it like, ya know, living the good life, being rich and all that?"

We are walking around the park, talking. I look at my mint chocolate chip ice cream. "It's not as good as you think," I stare at the sky, the sun about to set soon. "I never was a happy child, my parents always would through me into things I didn't want to do. It sucked. Especially ballet."

Vanessa laughs. "Well, it ain't good when you're poor either," she said, finishing her last few scoops.

"I was meaning to ask without seeming rude but how did you buy those tickets?" I look at her.

"eBay," she laughs. "Some stupid guy thought because they got wet he couldn't use 'em." She sighed. "I told him I wanted them because I had a 'collection,'" she uses her fingers.

I laugh. And watch the sun go down.
