Annabeth's pov

The next week, I couldn't seem to find Sophie anywhere. I checked her locker, and it's empty which is normal since some people like to empty their lockers out when semester 1 ends, But I went to ask her teachers and they haven't seen her all day either, so I decided to pay a visit to the principal.

I walked to the principal's office and took a gulp, no one visits the principal's office unless they have to. I knocked on the door 3 times and waited.

The door opened as I counted to 58 seconds, "Come on in!!" the principal said, smiling.
"Um... hi, so I wanted to ask you about why Sophie Foster isn't here today?" I asked, closing the door behind me.
"Sophie who Foster?" the principal asks, opening his computer and typing.
"Sophie Elizabeth Foster."
"Oh um her payment isn't paid in full, so it only lasts till the end of semester 1." the principal said. Oh gosh, I forgot that the Fosters like to pay the school monthly not yearly!! Does this mean that Sophie can't come to school next semester?

I was about to ask that question when the principal answered my question himself, "This means that Miss Foster won't be able to attend school next semester, and she isn't coming for the rest of semester 1 too."

I rushed out of the office, took my belongings and out of the school, I got onto a bus and went straight to foster care.
"I'm looking for Miss Sophie Elizabeth Foster?" I asked the front desk lady.
"And to whom are you to her?"
"Her friend ma'am."
"And the reason of visit?"
"JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN ROOM NUMBER!!" I yelled, not bothered to answer her dumb questions anymore.
The lady seemed to be in shock and didn't reply, so I marched to the end of the hallway where the founder's office is and knocked on the door.

"Come in" a deep but kind voice said from the back of the office.
The ceiling is at least 2 ½ floors tall and painted with dark navy blue paint and the furniture are all deep green, making a contradiction of colors that make people feel welcomed but also empowered. The interior has a hint of Italian architecture in it but it's mostly based off the English architecture style, which I find quite pretty. There were some essence of Greek too, there are some Greek gods/goddesses carved onto the pearl pillars on both sides with their Greek name.

I strolled into the room, only to be met by what seemed to be a father-and-daughter moment. "Did I interrupt something?" I ask, glancing between the two.
"No, no. Not at all, please, have a seat Miss.......?"
"Chase"
"Biana, mind if you step into the room there for a second?" the adult asks.
"Okay dad!!" the girl—Biana said, bouncing into the room and closing the door behind her.

"Miss Chase, I assume you're here for information about Miss Foster?" The name plate on his desk spelled A-l-d-e-n.
"Yes."
"And presumably what do you wish to know about?" Alden asks.
"About her school learning sir, and visiting her sir."
"No need for sir Miss Chase, you can call me Alden."
"Then you can call me Annabeth." I replied, smiling.

Alden told me about Sophie's condition right now. She will have to spend the rest of her time here at foster care with her roommate Marella and won't be able to attend school. She will be homeschooled along with the rest of the foster care kids the same age as her and Alden's children which is surprisingly the same age as us.

I thanked him after asking for Sophie's room number and key and walked out of the enormous room.
