Years after having our son, we learn just how true the prophecy we were given is. It tests all of our limits to how much we can endure before breaking, how much we love each other, and how far we are willing to go to help each other. There are new f...
The next morning, Chris and I drove to our offices. I had to find any Sheriffs available to take in the refugee vampires and I wasn't sure how to even word it without causing mass panic. Sitting at my desk, the cursor on the screen blinked at me as I thought of how to approach this.

I received responses from each Sheriff throughout the day with varying degrees of compliance. I stated again that I needed each one of them in attendance or, as much as I didn't want to, they would have to give up their position. No one fought back after that. I went home, exhausted after dealing with the phone calls from the Sheriffs who wanted more answers than I could give. Pulling into the driveway, I dragged myself inside. Val had cooked dinner already and it smelled amazing. We sat down to eat, I didn't even care to ask what it was, but it felt like it satisfied my hunger, and I was fine with that. When the kids headed to bed, I waited for Chris to ask me about the e-mail. He was the only one who didn't respond.
"What's this about?" he asked, holding his phone up.
"It has to do with Anna needing our Sheriffs to act as refuge to some of the vampires needing to leave France and Europe. There's a lot I can't tell you right now because we're in an unsecure area, but –"
"'Unsecure'? We're home!"
"I mean that there are certain protective spells I need up before I can divulge the full details. I know you're my husband and we don't keep secrets, but this is different. On Friday, I will tell you along with the rest of the Sheriffs what's going on. You know some of it already..." He nodded, understanding. "Val, Zane... Are you two going to be available on Friday? I need those spells to be perfect. And with a meeting hall that size... I don't want Zane's energy drained." They both nodded. Zane and Chris stayed up drinking a few beers while Val and I headed to bed.
"So... I can help you Friday," she started. "But... I was planning on going to the fae realm Wednesday morning. I should be back in a few hours – I just want to talk to Celia about everything that happened this weekend, and after our talk with Anna... I think I should see if I can find any more information on the situation."
"Okay, would you like me to go with you?"
"Yeah, sure. I wouldn't mind it..." We got ready for bed and Val fell asleep pretty quickly in my arms.

Wednesday morning Val handed me a pile of navy-blue fabric. I unfolded it, seeing a pair of wrap pants with a very soft top. I took off my shirt and pulled the top on over my head, tossing my bra aside as I couldn't wear it underneath. It fit snugly but was otherwise comfortable. I sat the fabric on my hips as I tied the pants around my waist, struggling to get them positioned properly. Val wore an outfit very similar in style and after we got dressed, she opened a portal to the fae realm for us. We stepped through it, into the field just outside the market. The grass under my feet was cool and firm. She pulled me to a stall and leaned over the counter, asking for the pastries she always made us eat when we came through. It was probably the first time I'd actually enjoyed it. We walked to the gold building and took the lift to the top floor.
