Val got ready to cook dinner and I checked my e-mail. There was one from Anna titled 'URGENT'. Not really wanting to deal with it, but knowing I had to, I took a deep breath.

"Jeez, Anna, if it's urgent, why didn't you just call me?" I asked, under my breath. I clicked on it.

I groaned. This was going to be more than any of us wanted to deal with at the moment.

"What's up?" Val asked, standing behind me. I pointed to my computer screen and let her read the short but pointed e-mail. "What the hell? What could she need me for?"

"Well, you are the Eminence..." I said, looking at her.

"Yeah but this doesn't seem like an 'Eminence' thing..."

"I guess I'll call her." I reached for my phone and dialed her number hoping it wasn't too late in France. It hardly rang once before she answered. "Anna. Hey," I said when she picked up. She transferred it over to a video chat. "What's going on? Everything okay?"

"Liz! Sorry, one second..." She turned away from the screen. "Yes, it's secure! Will you just let me talk to them? Sorry, Liz. Yes. It's regarding the transport of our friends..."

"Is this something you can talk about over the phone?"

"I have the room barriered and spelled silent." She looked over her shoulder at someone. "So, I have a question for you and your wife." Val came behind me, standing over my shoulder.

"...Uh huh..."

"I have a pretty strong witch over here... she has thought of a way to get everyone to their desired location without raising a huge alert. She's had some success with it on a small scale here."

"Oh. They're not flying here?" Val asked.

"I realized having hundreds of vampires flying out may not be the best idea... Some of them might but I just can't send them all to an airport, unprotected. I wouldn't put it past these bastards to try and blow up the plane – then we'd get human authorities in involved. So, we were talking, and she came up with an idea that I need to know if it is even feasible. Is there any way you two can come here and we talk about a plan?" Before I could even answer, I heard Chris' voice from just outside the door.

"Absolutely fucking not! You two aren't going anywhere near that place!" he said, stepping inside. I gave him a look of warning.

"Chris." I turned away from him as the kids and Zane were getting out of the car to come inside and Val and I walked towards the living room. "Anna, we can't go to France. And you know why I can't. If it wasn't for that, I might go, but I can't risk it right now, I'm sorry. Is there something we can do from here?"

"Some leaders you are," I heard an unfamiliar voice say with a thick French accent. "I'm offering you assistance and intel on your enemy and you refuse? Pathétique. This is why I don't work with vampires! Why won't you come to France?"
