"Tell us another story, Dadi!" Bella exclaimed.
Nitika, however, felt a surge of fear run through her veins. She had already been scared by Dadi's previous story, and the thought of listening to another one was too much to bear. She gulped down and spoke up.
"I... I'm feeling sleepy... I'll go and sleep..." she said, trying to sound as natural as possible.
Her words drew the attention of the others, and they all turned to look at her. Avyaan chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners, and Nitika felt a flush rise to her cheeks. She glared at him, trying to appear indignant.
"Tum kya sochte ho? Main darti hoon?" she asked, trying to sound offended.
("What do you think? Am I scared?")
Avyaan's smile grew wider, and he replied, "Nahi madam, darta toh main aapse hoon."
("No madam, I'm scared of you.")
Nitika's eyes met Avyaan's, and they held each other's gaze for a few seconds. The air was charged with tension, and Nitika felt her heart racing in her chest.
Aleena's voice broke the spell, and Nitika turned to look at her. "Okay, go and sleep. I'll come after listening to the story," Aleena said, smiling.
Nitika nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She was about to get up when Avyaan spoke up.
"I'll come with you," he said, his eyes locked on hers.
She didn't want Avyaan to know that she was scared, so she tried to sound brave.
"No, I'm not scared. I can go alone," she said, trying to sound confident.
Avyaan shrugged, his eyes never leaving hers. "Oh, okay," he said, his voice dripping with amusement.
Nitika felt a flush rise to her cheeks as she got up to go inside the house. She could feel Avyaan's eyes on her as she stepped inside the house.
As Nitika stepped inside the house, she was enveloped in darkness, except for the faint glow of the lamp near the sofa. She felt a shiver run down her spine as she approached the stairs, her throat suddenly dry.
She needed water.
Nitika made her way to the kitchen, fumbling for the light switch. She finally managed to turn it on, and the bright light made her squint. She quickly grabbed a glass and filled it with water, gulping it down in one swift motion.
Nitika stepped out of the kitchen, her eyes adjusting slowly to the darkness. That's when she saw it - a figure standing at the top of the stairs, looking down at her. Her heart skipped a beat as she remembered Dadi's first story.
The figure began to move towards her, and Nitika's fear turned to panic. She stumbled backward, her voice rising to a hysterical yell. "Bhoot! Bhoot! Bhoot!"
Just as she was about to turn and run, she saw someone standing in the doorway, she immediately recognized him. Without hesitation, Nitika flung herself into Avyaan's arms, hugging him tightly.
"What happened?" Avyaan asked concerned.
Nitika stuttered, still clinging to Avyaan. "B...b... Bhoot... Vaha... Bhoot tha... Ab... Abhi."

RomanceThe jerk's eyes widened in disbelief. "Don't tell me she's our classmate." My eyes mirrored his shock. "Wait, what? He's our classmate?" I asked, my voice laced with disbelief. Aleena nodded. "Yes, he's Avyaan Parekh." I couldn't believe it. "Well...
