Chapter 26

Continuing through the forest turned out more difficult than expected. With still no ending in sight, we decided to climb a tree and rest there for the night. The large trees created a perfect tent to hide ourselves in. Sam bent the branches and flatted part of the inside of the tree to create a spot we could lay in for the night. It is going to be harder to find this island than I originally expected. So far Sam and I stumbled across the Fauhl tribes. We did not have to search far for them. There are so many spread across their lands that no matter which direction we went in we ran into one. There are many less Ruhk groups than there were Fauhl tribes, and there land is significantly bigger as well. They have the ocean to add to it.

"Here," Sam handed me a piece of bread, "You need to eat. I think we need to be eating more meals than what we are."

"Why?" I wondered.

"We are exercising so much during the day. You are getting skinner. That means we are not eating enough to compensate for all that we are exercising. I suspected it before. We need to add another meal."

"When?" I asked. I could not argue with his assumption. I saw the same thing happening to him as well. We are walking over a couple dozen miles a day and eating three meals will do nothing for our health. We need more than that especially because they are usually smaller meals as well.

"We need to eat something as soon as we get up, two hours later, the middle of the day, two hours after that, dinner, then eat something small before we go to bed. We can continue our small meals, but we need to eat at least five or six times a day to compensate for all the exercise we get during the day."

"How long have you been thinking about this?"

"Just today," he answered, "When we walked into the jungle I saw how skinny you were. I did not know you had gotten so skinny. I can see a lot of your bones. It is not healthy. We have concentrated too hard on having enough food for the future that we have not been taking care of ourselves now. So more meals it is."

I nodded, "I agree. I saw the same thing in you as well. We also need to drink more water. How much do we have left?"

"We should have a few gallons left. We can search for a water supply tomorrow to fill some of our canteens."

"Good... Sam?"

He looked over at me, "What is it, sweetheart?"

"Do you think the Ruhk know we are in their lands? Do they have ways of figuring that out or are we going to surprise them by showing up on their lands? My parents always had guards near the borders and they found out as soon as they could when someone entered our lands, but the Ruhk did not seem to have that."

"I have no idea. Maybe because they have shark genetics in them many are strong enough to defeat any enemies they come across. Maybe some groups stay near the edges of the oceans to prevent anyone from getting to that island Caroline mentioned. I have no idea."

I laid my head on his shoulder, "I hope they do not fear us. It is sad that we keep coming across people who hate us or fear us. It is not a pleasant feeling knowing what everyone in the room is thinking about you. Will we ever get to a point where the world isn't scared or hateful towards us?"

"I think that city we saw in the future was where we achieved all of that. Everyone mingled together and everyone seemed happy. No one seemed scared or hateful to me."

"No they didn't," I agreed. "I can't wait for that."

"Me either," he kissed my head, "We only have a few more rough patches to get through first."
