Note: Another little preview! I'll obviously begin updating this story when I finish book two but I am incredibly excited to tell Topanga's story. :D
Part 1
Chapter 1
I wandered around the castle waving at a few of the guards as I passed. I wished there were more people in this castle. It's just my family and I get terribly bored. I went to find my parents and my dad sat on his throne in the main room. He was speaking to one of the citizens. He often lets them in the castle to hear their complaints. It's one of the many reasons the Tigmas praise him so much: he always solves their problems. He does not ignore the poor or middle classes because we are all one people.
He spotted me and smiled, "My dear daughter Topanga, how is your day?"
"Father I have nothing to do. May I walk into the village?"
"You know the rules," he replied.
I frowned. I hate their rule: I must never walk into town or outside alone. With the Tigmas power and my family's power they fear me being alone at such a young age. I don't consider myself that young, but they do. I cannot argue.
"What if I ask Katherine to join me?" I suggested.
Katherine is my best friend. We have known each other our entire lives. Her mother works as a witch for my parents. They always keep her family close by.
"Very well, have a nice time."
I kissed his cheek, "Thank you father. I will see you tonight."
I walked out of the throne room and make my way to the other side of the castle. Mother and father insisted on giving Katherine and her family their own housing within the castle to keep them close. Katherine and her mother Bonnie are the official King and Queen's witches. They perform whatever spells or potions are needed for my parents or the kingdom. They thought it was only fair that they stayed close. They also happen to be good friends too. I walked in without knocking on their door hoping to find Katherine in the main room. Nobody seemed to be in the main room so I went searching. Luckily I found Katherine in her bedroom.
"Hello Topanga," Katherine smiled, "How is your day?"
I smiled, "I would like to go into the village to explore. My father has asked me to find somebody to go with me. You know their rules about wondering about alone."
"Mother," Katherine called, "Can I go into town with Topanga?"
Bonnie walked into the room with us, "Yes but be sure to be home by supper time."
She nodded, "I will mother."
We walked out of the castle together and skipped to the gate. I had to hand over a handwritten note from my father before the guards let us out, but eventually they did. We did not feel comfortable talking until we were far enough away that the guards could not hear us anymore. Tattletales they are, they cannot help it. It's their job to tell my parents everything they see and hear.
"Did you hear the news?"
"What news?" I asked Katherine.
"The witches have started fighting."
"Fighting what?"
"Your family I suppose."
"Why would they fight my family?"
Katherine shrugged.
"Tell me," I insisted.
"They're not too pleased with my family. They think we gave in to your family's powers and that the royal family is planning to take over the world. Everybody says your power is growing and you have everybody that you need on their side. If they had it their way all the races would be completely separated and we would never speak to each other."
