Chapter 17

Our biggest goal the next day was to figure out where to hunt in the area. Villagers did it all the time, but we were not simple villagers. With Sam traveling most of his adult life, he always bought whatever he needed along the way. With my royal past, my parents hired people to go out and buy everything we needed. Neither one of us had any kind of experience as to how we should start. We took a few weapons we found and traveled in the nearest forest we could see. For the first hour we did not see one living creature.

"I do not think we are deep enough in the forest," I told Sam. "I think we must go deeper."

As we went deeper we began to see smaller creatures such as squirrels and rabbits. For the first day we decided a couple rabbits would probably be better than nothing. We could try for something better the next day. Sam walked back to the cabin three hours later with four rabbits in his hand while I walked by his side with all the food we came across along the way.

"We should stop here for a minute," Sam said setting down the rabbits. "It might be a good idea to explore the area before heading back to the shelter."

I nodded, "I will wander west."

"I will wander east then," he replied. "Meet back here in a half hour."

The Fauhl lands were not far from this village. I climbed to the top of a nearby hill and I could see the border. I wonder where they all are. I wonder if they have to hide like we do. I wonder if they are as scared of the Silthra and the humans as the Tigmas are. It's upsetting to think that we are the only race that has to hide. The Fauhl, the Ruhk, the witches, the Silthra, and the humans get to live freely. The Ruhk and the Fauhl easily hide in their own lands without anybody else seeing them, but the Silthra, the witches, and the humans are all friendly with each other. It makes me wonder what put my parents on their bad side. Obviously something happened to make them come after our people to the point that they want us all dead.

Looking behind me, I did not see Sam. I climbed down the other side of the hill until I found a tree and climbed to the top of it. I need to be hidden for this. I rested comfortable against a branch and closed my eyes. I need to look into the past. I want to see the moment things went bad between the humans and the Tigmas.

"I want to see the moment everything went bad between the Tigmas and the humans," I told myself. "I want to see the moment everything went bad between the Tigmas and the humans."

I felt lighter and I knew it worked. My mind felt as if it began spinning uncontrollably. When I felt stable enough I opened my eyes. I looked around and noticed I still sat in a tree. I climbed down and looked around. I am outside the castle. I walked through the castle and saw a younger version of my parents in the throne room. There were 10 people standing in front of them and all of them were clearly humans.

"We simply ask for more time," one of the humans said. It was the leader, I knew that. I recognized him. He is a lot younger, but still the same person. It is what they call the President.

"We have given you enough time," My father said. "We have given you more time than you deserve. What else do you expect us to do?"

Mother replied, "We must always do what is best for our people and you have proven not to be beneficial or respectful to us."

"Our laws prevent us from punishing them further," The president says. "We cannot lawfully touch them."

"Then we will," Father said. "Your group of criminals has killed one hundred of our people and we will not risk losing anybody else. You will surrender your people or our peace treaty is void and we will take them for ourselves."
