Chapter 20
Alexander arrived back at the tribe the next day halfway through the day. We were gathered with a few other villages eating by the fire. Sam and I sat on one log while three other villagers sat across from us. Alexander jogged to us and sat on the log next to Sam. "Do you have news from my uncle?" I asked him. "How was the village?"
"You will be happy to hear that the Tigmas are doing well. The families are settled into jobs and getting used to their new lives. Your uncle takes on the king role well."
I smiled, "I knew he was perfect to be King. What did he say?"
"He was surprised, but he smiled. He wanted me to tell you that he knew you would achieve great things. He did not expect an alliance so soon."
"Good," I nodded. "Great job."
"Where is my father?"
"In the house," Sam told him.
Alexander quickly got up and jogged into the house. "We succeeded," I smiled at Sam. He put his arm around me and I leaned my head on his shoulder.
"Can we ask you something?" A younger lady suddenly asked.
I nodded, "What is it?"
"What is it like out there?" she asked. "We have heard rumors about the war for years. I could see part of the destruction of your castle from the mountain the day it happened."
"You did?" I asked surprised.
She nodded, "I travel up the mountain to gather food and other supplies sometimes. It is also a great place to hide things. When I reached the top I saw smoke in the distance. I knew it was the castle. What was it like?"
"The rivalry lasted for years, but I did not know much about it. What I did know was the last battle took everyone by surprise. The entire race began going into panic and it was difficult to get the people to safety. I did not see the destruction of the castle until Sam and I left."
"I am sorry about what happened."
"Thank you," I smiled.
"Our people are close here, but we are a small community. We are not united like the Tigmas. You have villages separating your people, but you are all the same. We are not. We are the border tribe so we must warn and protect the other tribes. Each tribe has a different job, but we only communicate when necessary. Most of us are jealous of the races that get to be united. We hope you can bring peace to us all."
I smiled at Sam and he replied, "We hope we can do that for all of our races too."
"I know it seems selfish to come here seeking help," I added, "But we did not only have our people in our minds when we arrived. We have this... idea, in our heads about what the world could look like."
"What is this idea?" one of the other members of the tribe asked.
"Every race lived in peace. We all shared lands with each other but we still had our own villages to separate some of us. Our culture and our traditions were still there, but we did not have the rivalries that exist today. We want that to come true. That is what we are doing here."
"Do you think this idea is possible?"
"Absolutely," Sam immediately answered, "We have no doubt in our minds that this idea is possible because we know that it is possible. Why else would Topanga and I travel around the world for the rest of our lives trying to convince the other races of our beliefs?"
The first girl smiled, "Thank you. You did not have to explain it to me, but I am glad you did. It may not seem like it, but every tribe and every race have their own insecurities. It took more than you realize for our chief to agree to alliance with you. We've all sacrificed a lot already."
