Chapter 13
I let Sam go first as we approached the house, but he still kept that firm grip on my hand. He knocked on the door and we only waited a few moments before his father opened the door. His eyes went straight to Sam and did not leave. A small smile spread across his lips. "I hoped you were alright. I hoped you made it down here. Your mother prayed for you," he said at a whisper.
Sam replied, "Yes I am alright. I came to find you when I could."
"Who is ..." His eyes landed on me and he was going to ask who I was, but he trailed off. He realized who I was after that. Sam's mother came to see who was at the door as well. As happy as she was to see Sam, her eyes stopped on me as well. They both bowed to the ground before saying anything else.
"Sam, my son, I have missed you," his mother said, "But why have you brought the princess with you?"
"She is Queen now," his father added. "We got word that the King and Queen were dead. We are sorry."
I smiled, "Thank you. I am glad your family made it here safely."
"I tried to send word to you before anything happened," Sam changed the subject of our conversation. "I met Topanga in the village one day and escorted her back to the castle. We were married shortly before the major battle and death of the King and Queen."
I did not think his family was going to believe him. In fact, his mother looked like she was going to fall over when her mind processed what Sam said. "You are the King?" his father asked.
"Father, we have not taken the throne yet. I tried to send word to you about my wedding, but it did not get to you before the battle happened. Topanga thought it would be a good idea to see if you were okay and to see if you received the warning in time to travel here."
His mother finally hugged him, "Sam I have missed you so much. We have all missed you and we are sorry for what we put you through."
"I assure you they are sorry," His father replied.
"And please come in," she told us. "We would enjoy getting to know your new wife. We are honored to meet you, your majesty."
"Please call me Topanga," I told them. "After all, we are family now."
"I suppose we are probably the only family you have left?" his father asked.
I nodded, "I have an uncle, an aunt, and a few cousins, but everybody I grew up with is gone now. My parents, Caroline, Bonnie, and Katherine; everyone that I lived with in the castle."
"Everyone in the castle is gone?" he asked, shocked.
I nodded again, "Bonnie and Katherine, the Salem witch family, fought as hard as they could but their own people were after them. Caroline, the psychic, died too in the battle. All three of them were targets because of their talents. They also helped my parents tremendously with ruling the kingdom."
"Come in and sit down," he said. "You do not need to explain everything to us now."
His father led us to the living room while his mother went to the kitchen to get us a drink. His father left us alone after that to get the other family members. "How do you feel?" I asked Sam as soon as we were alone.
"Relieved," He smiled. "I am glad they are okay."
"I knew you would be."
"You know, I only wanted to tell you about my family. You never knew that part of me. You did not need to help me find them right away. I wanted you to know my whole story because we got to know each other so fast and I wanted it to stay a secret until I knew our true future. When I did know our future everything happened so fast and the war was getting worse so I thought I should wait until everything calmed down before telling you."
