Chapter 3
I supposed Sam did not show up that night because when he tried to come he saw that my parents were in there instead. It is probably good because I did not want to try to explain that to my parents. Besides, my mind became too crowded with thoughts of soul mates and magic for the rest of the night. I hardly slept at all. My ladies helped me into my new dress the next day and I met my parents for breakfast where I also saw Sam sitting next to them.
“There she is!” Father smiled, “How did you sleep?”
I kissed his cheek and hugged him as he stood up. “Hardly at all,” I admitted, “I kept thinking too much.”
“You can get a nap in this afternoon,” Mother hugged me. “Have some breakfast.”
“Thank you,” I said taking the seat next to Sam.
“Good morning Topanga,” he smiled.
“Good morning Sam. Did you sleep well in your new bedroom?”
“I did, although you were right about the employees showing up early to clean.”
“Did they wake you?”
“Yes but I would have slept longer than I should have anyway so it was probably good.”
“You two should take a walk in the garden today,” Mother suggested. “The gardeners finished it just yesterday.”
“That sounds great your majesty,” Sam smiled. “I would enjoy that.”
“You are a friend to us now,” Mother smiled, “You may call me Caprika.”
“Thank you Caprika, I appreciate that.”
“And call me Odyss,” Father added. “We like it when those close to us call us by our names.”
“Thank you Odyss, you two have both been incredible. I see now why all of us worship you so much.”
“Thank you,” Mother smiled. “We love all our people and we take care of them. That is our duty and we enjoy doing it.”
“May I be excused?” I asked, “I want to visit Katherine and apologize for yesterday.”
“Yes you may.”
“I will be back in a few minutes,” I said leaving the room.
I let myself in as I always do and suspected Bonnie was in her magic room. I knew Katherine would be in her bedroom because she is not allowed to see the complex and powerful magic her mother does yet.
“Topanga, what are you doing here?”
“I need to apologize for yesterday. I never meant for my parents to show up. I did not want to put you in a bad position.”
“That is okay. It did not do any harm. What happened last night anyway?”
I smiled, “I met someone. I did not sit there very long after you left before I realized I needed to at least start walking back to the castle. I met a boy named Sam and he walked me back to the castle.”
“What is he like?”
“He is incredibly nice, handsome, and I think I may like him too much.”
“What is too much?” she asked.
“My parents invited him to stay in the castle.”
“He is living here?”
I nodded, “He took the fall for me last night when I did not come home. He told my parents that he showed up as you left and volunteered to take me home since you had to leave.”
