luke:
I walked into maths, seeing something I didn't think I would. Calum was sat with Michael on the back row, a spare seat next to him. How did he get Michael to come round?
I walked over, sitting next to Calum, nudging his shoulder.
Michael was pre occupied with something in his phone so he wasn't listening to us, I don't think anyway.
"Calum how did you get him here?" I whispered.
"He has anxiety Luke he can't talk to anyone." He said as if I should have known that already. It shocked me a little but maybe I should have picked it up.
"Oh." I said quietly. "How bad is it?"
"He CAN'T talk to people Luke," He repeated, stressing the word "Can't".
Then it all kind of linked together, the not answering questions in class, the constant silence and the feeling that he might break if you spoke to him.
After maths had ended and me and Michael had no communication whatsoever, which I understood. We all headed off to separate lessons, no doubt he would go back to sitting alone.
We didn't see him again until lunch, where he was walking aimlessly through the corridor. He saw us and still looked slightly scared but Calum walked up to him and smiled.
"Hey, do you still wanna come sit with us?" he asked and Michael thought for a moment but nodded slightly.
"Great," he beamed and Michael began to walk with us as he listened in on our conversation about All Time Low's album Future Hearts.
"I've pre ordered it already," I smiled.
"Lucky. I'm broke so I'll have to get it a couple of days after release."
"Michael likes All Time Low." I said. "Don't you?" I looked at the red head.He seemed surprised that I was involving him and he nodded.
"Have you pre ordered it?"
He shook his head sadly, pulling out his phone and texting someone.
Suddenly Calums phone buzzed and he checked it.
"He said he doesn't have any money either." Calum shrugged. "It's okay bro, two against one, that makes Luke the weirdo."
I think Michael wanted to laugh or smile but of course he didn't.
The group of friends we usually sat with were giving me and calum questioning looks from across the canteen. I mouthed "I'll tell you later" and they turned back around.
I didn't know if I'd tell them later, but I needed to shut them up for now.
We continued talking about bands and new music, Michael occasionally texting Cal something he wanted to say, you would think it would be hard to get used to but we adapted to it quickly.
We had no more classes for the rest of the day, but I did have Michael's number from when he texted me something during lunch. I decided to text him in the middle of fifth period, so he still had sixth period to reply before we went home.
To Michael: "Hey it's Luke, wanna come to my house with Calum after school?"
It took about two minutes for a reply. I suppose he was on his phone all the time.
From Michael: "Okay. Meet me at the gates at 3?"
To Michael: "Okay."
I texted Calum to tell him and confirmed it all.Sixth period was a drag for me, I couldn't go on my phone though because we had a strict teacher and I was behind on work anyways.
I met Calum outside my classroom after the bell went and walked to the gates to meet Michael.
We texted, called and waited until 3:20, but he never came.
