After getting Blaise and Sky settled into their rooms, we discussed what their part in the team would be. "Well Blaise could always help me with weapons." Conrads says, winking at Blaise. Blaise looks away awkwardly, staring at Taylor. "I'm, uh, n-not good with weapons." He shrugs. Conrad looks down, disappointed in his unspoken rejection. He looks up at Blaise slyly, "I could always teach you how to use a weapon. I can teach you much more than that." He once again winks at Blaise. I laugh loudly, "conrad! Stop scaring the poor guy." I tell him. "Okayyy." He drags on. Beth speaks up, "we could always use an extra hand on the scavenger team. One of them can come with us. Sky, are good with a weapon?" She asks. Sky tears her gaze from me," huh? What?" She wonders. Beth repeats her question, this time speaking slowly, as if Sky spoke a different language. "Are...you...good...with...weapons?" Sky laughs and looks at Beth, "I've been shooting guns since I was 8 years old, I'm pretty good." She tells her. I look at Taylor and we have a silent conversation with each other. "Alright, Sky will be with you three and Blaise will just help out around here with whatever." She tells us. I hear conrad, who's sitting next to me quietly mutter a 'fuck yeah'. I shake my head at him. He's so desperate. "Its settled, you guys do whatever for now, tomorrow we'll take Sky and Blaise out to the field and see how good they are at fighting." Taylor speaks up. "Deal?" She asks, looking at us for approval. We all nod, speaking our agreement. Taylor gets up and leaves while Blaise watches her. Dude is creepy. "I'm going to the gym, I wanna play some basketball." Conrad tells us. I wave bye and he leaves. "Well, I don't know about you guys but, I'm heading to the field, I need practice." I say, getting up. "Can I come with you?" I hear Sky ask. I look at her awkwardly. "I can't stop you, now can I?" I ask. She blushes and gets up, following me to the field.

The field is our training area. We have the football dummies that the football palyers used for practice before the virus happened. We keep them in the shed by the field and bring them out for practice. I had 5 of them in a circle, with me in the middle. Sky sat at the bery top of the bleachers, watching me. Why the fuck did she come if she wasn't gonna do anything? I huff and grab the stop watch around my neck. I like timing myself. I hit start and drop it, letting it fall loose around my neck. I pull out my machete and turn, slicing at the first dummy, cutting through where its head would be. I pull out my gun and turn, shooting 2 of them. I face my right and stab another. Slicing where its chest would be. I do the same to the last one. I stop my stop watch and check the time i had. I repeat this over and over again, changing it up here and there. By the time I stop, the moon had come up and the football field lights had turned on. Sweat was dripping down my face and I was breathing rapidly. I look up to the bleachers and notice no one is there. Where did she go? "Wow, you really like to practice." I hear from behind me. I pull out my gun and turn, pointing it at the person. When I see it was only Sky, I tuck my gun away. "Jesus, you scared the fuck out of me." I breathe out. She smiles, "sorry, I didn't mean too." She laughs. "Its fine." I shrug. "Why do you practice so much?" She asks me, watching as I begin to drag the dummies back to the shed. I check the time as she follows, oh wow, 2 in the morning. I speak up, answering her question, "it's much easier to protect the people you love when you're good at it." I slam the shed door closed and lock it up. "Can't they protect themselves?" She asks me, following back to the school. "Yeah, they can. But, at the time when they can't, ill be there to do it." I explain, picking up my pace. She jogs to catch up to me. "You guys are really close, huh?" What's up with all of her fucking questions? I huff, "yeah, we are. Surviving together for a year can do that I guess." I say sarcastically. I open the door and head upstairs. When I stop hearing sky's footsteps I turn around. She's standing there, watching me with a curious look on her face. "One day you wont be there to protect them." She says quietly. I look at her angrily. "Ill always be there for them." I hiss. I turn and finish walking up the steps. I head to my room. When I get in there, I see conrad curled up on my bed, sleeping with his arms wrapped around my pillow. He must have had another nightmare. I chuckle at him and head to my desk, I put my machetes away and change into my shorts and my moms old t-shirt. Ill have to take a shower when I wake up. I lay my gun down next to my bed and lay down. I grad Zachs pillow pet and curl up under my blankets, one arm thrown over conrads waist. I set my head on the pillow and smile sadly. "Goodnight Zachary." I whisper as sleep consumes me.
