Using a napkin, I take a chocolate croissant and an oat-blackberry muffin from the pastry box. I slide them into thin paper bags, twisting the top loosely closed.
'Here you are,' I slide them toward the girl. 'Your total is eight sickles.' The round, silver coins drop into my hand.
The bell above the door chimes as a gust of freezing air hits me. A group of third-years I recognize from Hogwarts step into my shop, shivering.
'Hi,' I smile kindly at them. 'I'll be right with you.' One nods, elbowing another excitedly.
When I fetch extra napkins for the girl, I bid her a good day and look expectantly at the group of Gryffindors.
It's a snowy Friday evening. Classes are done for the week and everyone is either relaxing in their rooms or out in Hogsmeade.
Meanwhile, my bakery is open.
I busily work behind the wooden counter, fetching pastries and brewing drinks. Two trays of dark chocolate brownies bake behind me. The constant use of the oven makes the atmosphere warm and cosy, offering customers a break from the falling snow outside.
