angst + fluff

[ au: courtney is put together: class president, leader of clubs, school record-breaker for volunteer hours, and an aspiring lawyer on top of that. duncan is the exact opposite. duncan is also oddly persistent. ]

[ a/n: all credit to tom mccgillis & jennifer pertsch for characters, plot, and story dynamics! this is purely fanfiction and inspired by their original series! ]

...

My pencil dances furiously as I take notes. Each letter is swift, quick, and very aesthetically pleasing. Various pastels decorate my neat lines. I admire my paper in satisfaction. Highlighters truly are one of the world's wonders.

Flipping the sheet over in my notebook, my writing begins anew as I concentrate on Miss's droning lecture.

I love school. I actually enjoy it- I love to learn. Plus, my friends make it so much more fun. I'm aware I'm sort of known for loving it. But if I were to really be honest with myself, I would admit that a fraction of my love for school comes force-fed to me by my parents, wielding a delicate but imposing silver spoon.

And my parents are definitely a force to be reckoned with.

My dad is Finnish: a tall, stony-faced, gruff man. My mom is Mexican: a stern, strong, hard-working woman. Both of them are criminal defense lawyers, employed by the top private firm in the nation. Having both parents be so educated and clever was, to say the least, a strange blend of convenient and pressure-inducing. For one, I've never needed a tutor or fallen behind in class. Two well-read and knowledgeable adults keeping keen watch over my studies ensured almost always stable and reliable grades.
