So this is when Korra and Mako end up next to each other against Naga in the park.
Mako was up for hours staring at the frayed edges of the yellowing green leaves up on the tree Naga was leaning on. The breathing of the giant polar bear dog was calming. It was almost in time to the heartbeat of the Southern Watertribe girl dressed in blue.
The "water-bender, fire-bender, earth-bender" as she explained, was curled up against his chest and her cheek was nuzzled in his red scarf. Naga was leaning against the tree trunk and the bark scratched at her skin under the fur coat that is too hot for Republic City. The leaves tussled and rustled in the gentle breeze that made every breath he took in sharp and dry. There was a definite lack of humidity in the air.
Mako couldn't move a muscle; he couldn't risk messing up Korra's sleep. She had to keep fighting crime! Yeah. That's why he wanted her to keep sleeping....
He took a deep breaths in and out, trying to relax himself, for he found that her head on his jacket and hand balled up next to her cheek was making his heart beat a little faster.
She was so cute when she slept. She really was when she wasn't trying to be all macho and stuff. Korra was already tough in his eyes.
Mako gazed at her face, a strand of her hair was in her face. Without thinking he reached to her forehead and brushed her hair off of her face.
Korra's eyes fluttered to a half-lidded glance around her surroundings.
"Mako?" she guessed who the person she was laying on was with a murmur.
She rubbed her eye with a weak fist and then looked where she was lying, or rather who she was lying on with clearer vision to clarify the identity of the guy.
She screamed and jumped off of him after her "double take". He scrambled the other direction, both of them red in the face from embarrassment.
"Eh...did you sleep well?" Mako asked scratching his head bashfully and shaking his head, chuckling at the awkward situation.
(Is it just me or do you guys laugh when you're nervous or in awkward situations?)"Ha, yeah. Fine. You?" Korra's eyes frantically searched for anything but Mako.
"Good. Yep. Good, good." Mako stared at the leaves again. They rustled as if to whisper to each other.
"So, let's get back to the arena..." Mako suggested. He stood up and dusted off his back and rear of dirt he got on his clothes, another thing he's going to have to clean. More money for laundry services. More hours to work to pay for it. Mako was stuck in a never ending cycle.
"Yeah," Korra muttered as she got to her feet. The girl went in front of Naga and started scratching behind her ears.
"C'mon girl, let's go." She called to the polar bear dog while turning to follow Mako. He was already a few yards ahead of the pair.
"Wait! Mako! Slow down!" Korra waved from behind him.
When the avatar finally caught up he blushed and said, "You know, you have really soft hair."
The girl laughed with crossed arms, "I know."
Then she pulled up her hood so he wouldn't see her deep blush.I would say not my best work, but it's good enough.
I'm not a huge shipper of Makorra, but the person who requested this is, so I am honored to write this for her, enjoy and thanks for 5k!
