Laughter filled the great hall with jolliness. Children talking and being reunited with their friends made Tanya's heart fill with warmth, joyful at the sight of so much happiness.
Professor McGonagall carries the sorting hat in soon after the hall had been filled with the 2nd years and up. The hall becomes silent as the new 1st years line up. A tiny girl with hair as black as coal seems to almost shiver in anxiety as she stands in line. Tanya touches the girls arm gently. The little girl jumps.
"Don't worry I'm sure you'll be fine" Tanya whispers and gives her a comforting smile.
The small girl gives a quick smile before looking ahead and taking a deep breath.
"Kirton, Kitty." Professor McGonagall soon says and the young girl rushes up to the sorting hat and sits on the stool.
"GRYFINNDOR!!!!" The sorting hat yells and Tanya covers her ears, it was certainly a very loud hat and she grew quickly tired of it. But when she heard what the hat had decided she probably cheered the loudest of the entire school, almost jumping up out of her chair in excitement.
Kitty (the little girl) seemed lost for a few seconds at where to sit and Tanya almost instantly pushed Sirius off his seat and guided her to the now empty space. Rolling his eyes, Sirius whined,
"Why me? Why not Remus?" Gesturing to the other boy that sat beside her.
"Because Remus is much better company than you Mr Black" she retorts rather loudly for her.
"Don't worry he's just an annoying git" Tanya turns to Kitty smiling.
"Oh ok, I'm Kitty by the way" She says shyly.
"What a gorgeous name!" Tanya smiles widely at her, "I'm Tanya, this is Remus, that annoying git is Sirius, the other annoying git is James and there we have Peter, stuffing his face full of food" she adds, gesturing to each boy and receiving glares from both James and Sirius.
"Come on you, I'm starved"Remus gently tugs at Tanya's arm, as soon as Professor Dumbledore had finished the annual speech, dragging her attention to the glorious feast that had been laid out before them.
"I could really do with just a cup of tea to be honest" She ponders, laughing at the dumbfounded look on their faces at her words. "But of course I can hardly not be grateful for this feast and eat as much as I possibly can!" She continues smiling.
The feast soon drew to an end and Sirius smirked almost evilly at her.
"What?" Tanya raised her eyebrows.
"Nothing" he said still smirking.
As Tanya stood up she realised what Sirius had been smirking about. There was a slippery substance all over the floor, with one step forward she was on her bottom and sliding along to floor with every single student laughing at her.
Her cheeks began to turn bright red and tears welled up in her eyes. As soon as it was possible she ran out the door the tears slowly spilling out her ocean blue eyes.
Still hiding under her covers the other students started to spill into the common room still laughing and talking about what had happened. Unexpectedly Lily Evans ,one of the girls who shared her room came bursting in,not laughing and looking absolutely furious
"Remus wants you" she storms.
"Hey ,what's up?" Tanya asked gently, rather scared of the angry red-head
"Oh just the usual ,that stupid Potter trying to force me on a date with him" she sighs "Gosh, he's just just so annoying!".
"Well that's Potter and Black for you" Tanya gets up and walks to the door.
"I thought you guys were friends"
"Not after this" Tanya stomps down the stairs into the common room.
In the corner sits Remus with the others around him, shyness almost takes over her and at the sudden stares she receives as she walked in, she was very much tempted to run off back up the stairs. But her stubborn, upset side takes over and she braces herself and walks up glaring at Sirius and James.
"Get out of my bloody sight now!" she shouts ferociously glaring at them until they walk off with Peter running along behind them. She looks at Remus.
"You wanted me"
"Oh um yeah" he utters "I just wanted to know if you were OK...." He trails off.
"OK, OK what do you think I am!" She screams making everyone stop and stare, and with that she runs off to her room.
