"Are you stalking me?" Cassandra narrowed her eyes at me, lowering my copy of Pride & Prejudice.
Maybe.
"This is the school library," I laughed. "It's not like I followed you home."
"Then why are you lurking around the corner like a pervert?" She glared at me with her icy blue eyes.
To admire you.
Ignoring her unwelcoming demeanour, I walked over to the table. "You're reading the book I gave you."
"And? It's a good book." She shrugged, not giving me an ounce of satisfaction.
"I know." I nodded, pulling out the seat next to her. Glancing over her shoulder, a smile pulled at my lips. She'd been annotating it as well. "I'll have to get it back from you after. I would like to read your thoughts."
She closed the book and let out an annoyed sigh. "Can I asked why you're in the library...again?"
That was a fair question, one that I wasn't sure how to answer. The truth was that I couldn't stomach being in the same lunch hall as Grace and Johnny, let alone the same table. Which meant I spent my time hiding in the library.
Cassandra was only a perk to that.
"I like it in here." I offered with a grin. "It's quiet, full of good books and I happen to like your company."
"What?" Surprise washed over her features. "You like my company?"
"Yes, I do."
Her features softened and for a second I thought she might finally give in. But her glare returned and she scoffed, "is there something wrong with you?"
"In what aspect?" I smirked.
"Um, any?" She drawled.
"Then definitely." I agreed, unable to hold back my smile. "But I think we've all got something wrong with us."
"If this is your attempt at trying to 'figure me out' then stop." She snapped, leaning back in her seat. "I'm not interested in a friendship. I don't know how many times I have to tell you that."
"Stop telling me then." I shrugged, sliding the book towards me. "How far into it are you?"
"Give that back." She hissed, snatching it out of my hands. "You're a right prick, you know that?"
"I've actually never gotten that one before."
"Do you ever stop talking?"
"Do you ever stop complaining?"
She narrowed her eyes at me, as if she was trying to decide how to murder me. I didn't care how she looked at me, as long as she was looking.
