June 10, 2003

"I fucking love summer holiday," My best friend—Veronica—laughed, as we lounged on the beach.

"Me too," I grinned, "I could quite literally stay here forever, but I'd probably burn to death."

"Yeah, and then Stephan would kill me for bringing his girlfriend back all burnt to a crisp," She laughed.

I smiled at the mention of my boyfriend. We'd been going out for nearly two years and I planned on making it many more.

"Speaking of Steph," She giggled, "Do you think you're going to do it soon?"

It meaning sex. I'd been waiting because I was scared of what it would be like. I knew he wanted to do it, but I kept putting it off.

"I don't know, Roni," I frowned, "I just don't think I'm ready."

"Fair enough," She agreed, "But I'm ready the second Patrick Feely realizes he loves me."

That was Veronica for you—obsessed with the idea of sex and more specifically the rugby lads.

"You think Patrick is ready to have sex? He's only in third year," I gaped.

"Well if he's not, then Johnny Kavanagh most definitely is," She giggled, "I heard he's been fucking since first year."

"Oh my god!" I screamed, "That's way too much information. His sister's in my maths class."

"Will you put in a good word for me," She teased.

"Steph knows all those lads, maybe he could," I offered, looking for any excuse to bring him up in the conversation.

"We should ask him! That is such a good idea," She squealed, rolling onto her stomach in order to tan her back.

"Oh my god! Cass?!" Sarah—a girl from school—waved to me as her and a few others walked towards us.

"Hey!" I waved back, a huge smile on my face.

"I didn't know you two would be here," Sarah grinned, "Can we hang with you?"

"Of course," I nodded, "The more the merrier."

"I love you, Cass," Rebecca laughed, "You're like a real life care-bear."

I chuckled, because I got that all the time. Apparently I had some sort of infectious happiness that rubbed off on people.

"How's Steph?" Angelina asked, laying her towel out next to mine.

"Good! We are going out for dinner tonight," I smiled.

"Cute, you guys are literally perfect together," She nodded, "I wish I had that."

"You will," I assured her.

I laid back on my towel and soaked up as much sun as I could.

Because in my opinion life was better with a tan.

And I let my mind drift off to what I would wear tonight. I also let myself celebrate that I was the type of girl people were jealous of.

Life was sort of perfect.

Summer had that sort of effect.
