The sun hung low in the sky as Katrina pulled into the familiar winding roads of Monaco. The sea mirrored her anticipation, a blend of anxiety and excitement bubbling within her. It had been weeks since she'd left Monaco for the race, a brief escape that had turned into a much-needed retreat, but now she was back home.
As she parked her car in the driveway of Casa Katrina, a familiar voice broke through her thoughts. "Trina! You're back!" Ollie's cheerful shout echoed from the balcony, where he and Kimi were sprawled across lounge chairs, soaking up the last rays of sun.
"Hey! I thought you two were supposed to be training!" Katrina laughed, climbing the steps to join them.
"We decided to take a break. Besides" Kimi smirked, tossing his sunglasses onto his forehead, "we need to work on our tan more than our speed right now."
Katrina rolled her eyes at the younger drivers, but the grin on her face betrayed her. "You guys are hopeless. What have you been up to?"
"Practicing our best beach poses," Ollie quipped, striking a ridiculous pose that made Kimi burst into laughter. "But seriously, it's been pretty quiet without you."
"Yeah, too quiet," Kimi added, nudging Ollie. "We need you back to liven things up. You bring the chaos."
Katrina took a seat on the edge of Kimi's chair, the warmth of their camaraderie wrapping around her like a soft blanket. "Chaos, huh? I guess I'll have to bring some for you."
"More like music chaos," Ollie chimed in, wiggling his eyebrows. "When are you going to drop your new single?"
The mention of her music sent a ripple of uncertainty through her. "I don't know. I've been thinking about it a lot, but I'm just not sure if it's the right time. I knew that I love making music but I am not yet sure if I am ready to share it with others again"
Kimi straightened up, his expression serious. "You've worked hard on it. You can't keep holding back forever. Your talents deserved to be appreciated. If you are not yet ready to share it to others, you can at least let us hear it"
Before she could respond, her phone buzzed, the screen lighting up with a familiar name. Charles. Her heart raced, a mix of longing and hurt flooding her senses. She hesitated, but the moment passed, and she shoved the phone back into her pocket.
"I'm okay," she said, trying to sound convincing. "Really."
Ollie exchanged a glance with Kimi, their concern evident. "You sure? Because you look like you've seen a ghost," he teased gently, but the smile didn't quite reach his eyes.
"I just... I need to figure things out."
"Things with Charles?" Kimi asked, tilting his head. "You know he's been trying to make it up to you, right?"
Katrina waved her hand dismissively. "It doesn't matter. I just need space."
"Space? Or time to think about how to tell him you still love him and that you realized you went a little bit overboard?" Ollie countered.
Katrina opened her mouth to argue but the truth caught in her throat. Instead, she sighed. "I don't want to talk about him right now. Can we focus on something else? Like, I don't know, how I'm going to finish this supposed album?"
