The air around Yunmeng was fragrant with the scent of blooming lotus flowers as Yuemei and Minghao left the inn. The golden light of the setting sun cast a serene glow over the place, making the water shimmer and the trees sway gently in the breeze. Yuemei adjusted her indigo and white robes as they walked, matching her brother's colors to present a united front for the dinner invitation from the Jiang Sect.Minghao walked beside her, nervously fiddling with the folds of his robe. "Do I look presentable, Jiejie?" he asked, glancing at her for reassurance.
She gave him a quick once-over and nodded. "You look fine, A-Ming. Don't overthink it. It's just dinner."
"Dinner at Lotus Pier," he corrected. "With the Jiang family. It's not exactly casual."
Yuemei rolled her eyes but didn't argue. She could understand his nerves. The Jiang Sect was one of the most prominent in the cultivation world, and this invitation felt both an honor and a mystery. Why had Sect Leader Jiang gone out of his way to host them?
The journey to Lotus Pier took them along winding paths surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil waterways. Yunmeng lived up to its reputation-its beauty was striking in a way that felt both untamed and serene.
The air was thick with the scent of lotus blooms, their vibrant pinks and whites peppering the landscape. Small boats floated lazily on the water, their occupants casting nets or enjoying the day. She couldn't help but admire the peacefulness of it all. The Jiang Sect's territory was unlike the rugged mountains of her own sect-it was softer, gentler, yet carried an undeniable strength in its calm.
As they approached the heart of Yunmeng, Lotus Pier came into view. It was breathtaking. The pier itself seemed to rise seamlessly from the water, its wooden structures blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Curved eaves adorned with intricate carvings of lotuses and cranes framed the buildings. Wooden walkways stretched over the lotus-filled ponds, and small boats bobbed gently in the distance. The sound of water lapping against the docks mingled with the faint hum of cicadas, creating an atmosphere both peaceful and alive. The entire sect exuded an air of understated elegance.
Yuemei's footsteps faltered slightly as they drew closer. She couldn't help but feel a mixture of awe and apprehension. This is where so much of the story unfolded, she thought, her gaze lingering on the pier. This is where bonds were forged and broken, where choices were made that shaped destinies.
Minghao, walking beside her, seemed unfazed, his expression one of quiet confidence. She envied his ease.
When they reached the grand entrance of Lotus Pier, Yuemei's attention was drawn to a figure standing just outside the gates. He was tall and striking, his features sharp and undeniably handsome. His black hair was tied back into a loose half-ponytail, a simple yet elegant look that complemented his carefree aura. He wore dark robes with red accents and Yuemei's face twitched with recognition. Only one person in the whole of Yunmeng Jiang would wear black and red and be this carefree.
Yuemei's breath caught.
Wei Wuxian.
