The young lady drew a steadying breath as she stepped into the room, the faint scent of sandalwood greeting her senses. Its disciplined aroma seemed fitting for the world she had woken up in. If she were to survive—and thrive—here, she would need to embody all the grace and poise expected of her.

Her eyes swept across the room, taking in the seated figures with practiced composure. At the head of the room sat an older man whose dark brown robes bore the crescent moon motif she had noticed throughout the manor. His gaze was sharp but not unkind, radiating quiet authority. This, she surmised, was Zongzhu—the leader of the Feng Sect, and presumably her father.

(A/N - This is who I imagine as Feng Zongzhu and Feng Furen)

Beside him sat a woman with serene grace, her softer-colored robes and gentle smile exuding warmth. This had to be the Furen, the matriarch of the family. To Zongzhu's left was an older woman in plum robes adorned with intricate jade hairpins. Her sharp eyes lingered on her for a moment too long, making her guess this was an aunt or elder figure.

Beside her sat a younger girl with sparkling eyes and an eager expression. Her simple yet elegant attire suggested a position of importance, though not as high as the others. This had to be her Meimei—her younger sister, judging by her youthful exuberance.

"Feng YueMei, you're late. Come in," Zongzhu said, his tone firm yet affectionate. "Your Dayi and Meimei have dropped by to visit you before your journey to Gusu."

Feng YueMei bowed respectfully, her movements slow and deliberate. "Apologies, Zongzhu. I didn’t mean to keep everyone waiting," she said, her voice steady despite the unfamiliarity of her surroundings.

Zhongzhu raised an eyebrow and spoke, "Ah, Nu'er, you're not taking my second disciple with you, so drop the formalities."

Heavens, this is difficult, thought YueMei. At least it confirmed that Zongzhu was her father, and she even got to know her name. Hearing him refer to her as 'Nu'er' made her squeal in delight internally. It showed that the young lady had a close relationship with her father. Deciding to embrace this new change, she responded, "But…" she trailed off, unable to say more as her father now pointedly looked toward her aunt. She realized he didn’t want her to continue. She acknowledged him with a glance, then turned to her aunt. "Dayi, how have you been? How is Bofu?"

Her aunt smiled warmly. "I have been well, Mei-er, and so has your Bofu. He's busy with some trade agreements and couldn’t come today, but he did send you a gift." She signaled to one of the maids, who brought forward a tray covered with silk. The maid slowly uncovered the tray to reveal the most exquisite jade hairpin, and YueMei couldn’t help but gasp at its stunning craftsmanship. "Da-yi, this is so beautiful. This one thanks her Dayi and Bofu for their generous gift."

Dayi nodded approvingly

Dayi nodded approvingly. "It has been quite some time since we last visited Fenghua Manor," she said, her tone sharp but not unkind. "YueMei-er, you’ve grown into such a fine young lady. Your elegance reflects well on the Feng name."

"Thank you, Da-yi," Feng YueMei replied, dipping her head gracefully.

Her Meimei clapped her hands together, her voice bubbling with excitement. "Jiejie, you're going to Gusu! The teachings of Lan Qiren are famous and they say that he had raised his nephews. Will you meet the twin jades of Gusu? "

Feng Yuemei managed a small smile, careful not to seem overly familiar. "The Lan Sect is known for their discipline and wisdom. It will be an honor to learn from them."

Her heart however gave a faint thrum of relief at the mention of familiar names. The Lan Sect—a world renowned for their discipline and clarity—was a cornerstone of the book she suspected she was living in. She was thankful to hear that Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji were referred to as Twin Jades, and neither were said to be in seclusion. That indicates that she was at the start of the story when Wei Wuxian went to Gusu for the first time. Since Wei Wuxian was not mentioned, she can exclude the time after Wangji's seclusion and before the raise of Mo Xuanyu.

"You've always been diligent, Mei-er," Furen chimed in with a gentle smile. "Your father and I are proud to see you representing the Feng Sect." So it was her mother.

"I'll do my best to honor our name," Feng YueMei replied, suppressing her unease. She had no intention of shattering their high expectations, even if she still felt like an imposter in her own skin.

The conversation shifted to lighter topics—updates about the sect, news from neighboring regions, and occasional anecdotes about past visits to Gusu. Feng YueMei listened intently, piecing together more of her new life.

From what she gathered, the Feng Sect was a respectable mid-tier sect with a focus on balance and harmony, symbolized by their crescent moon crest. Zongzhu's leadership appeared measured, and Furen's warmth provided a nurturing counterbalance. Dayi, while sharp, seemed protective, and Meimei's vibrant energy filled the room with youthful enthusiasm.

"Mei-er," Zongzhu said, drawing her attention back. "You and your brother will represent the Feng Sect in Gusu. Remember, the Lan Sect is strict, and their lectures under Lan Qiren are renowned. Carry yourself with dignity and restraint."

"Yes, A-die ," she replied, bowing her head slightly.

Her Meimei leaned forward eagerly. "Jiejie, you must tell me all about the Cloud Recesses and write to me ! I've always wanted to go."

"Of course," she replied, her smile now genuine. "I'll write you everything."

As the visit drew to a close, Da-yi stood and regarded her with a piercing gaze. "Mei-er, remember this: the Feng Sect's integrity is its greatest asset. You carry not only your name but the pride of your entire sect with you."

"I will, Da-yi," she said, bowing deeply.

When the family dispersed, leaving her alone, Yuemei let out a quiet breath. The weight of expectations was heavy, but she felt an inkling of determination stirring within her. Gusu awaited, and with it, Lan Qiren's famous teachings—and perhaps, the answers she so desperately sought.

She only hoped she was prepared for what lay ahead.
