Yuemei woke up to the sound of water and slowly opened her eyes. She looked around, the light brown curtains swaying lightly to the breeze as light filtered through them casting a soft glow all over. It took her a moment to realise where she was, as events from the previous night. She stretched a bit and enjoyed the rare feeling of contentment that lingered. She looked over to the side and saw her brother still showing, arm over his face to block out the light. Chuckling quietly she rose and made her way over to him."Minghao, wake up,” she called softly, giving his shoulder a gentle shake. “Come on, we have a tour of Yunmeng Jiang today. We don’t want to be late.”
Minghao groaned, his voice muffled by the pillow. “Why are you so cheerful? Didn’t you drink as much as I did last night? How are you even standing?”
Yuemei chuckled, pulling the pillow away from his face. “Maybe I’ve built up a tolerance. Or maybe I’m just excited about today.” She paused, her smile faltering slightly. “But we should hurry. We didn’t plan to stay the night, and I’m sure Shixiong is worried about us.”
She stood, glancing down at her rumpled robes. A frown tugged at her lips as she realized the state of their clothing. “What are we going to do about our clothes? We didn’t bring anything for an overnight stay.”
Minghao finally sat up, rubbing his eyes. “I’m sure the Jiang sect has something we can borrow. They seem hospitable enough.” He yawned, stretching his arms above his head. “But you should’ve sent a servant to inform Shixiong. He’s probably beside himself with worry.”
Yuemei sighed, guilt pricking at her. “I know. I should have, but... I wasn’t thinking clearly. Last night was... different. I was happy, carefree. It’s been a long time since I felt like that.”
Minghao gave her a knowing look. “Yeah, you’ve never been one to let loose like that. I was surprised to see you out-drink most of us.” He shook his head, a small smile playing on his lips. “But I guess even you need a break from time to time.”
Their conversation was interrupted by a knock at the door. Before either of them could respond, the door swung open to reveal Wei Wuxian, a mischievous grin on his face, and Li Jianhong along with a maid standing just behind him, holding a small bundle of neatly folded robes.
“Good morning!” Wei Wuxian greeted cheerfully, stepping into the room. “I thought you two might need a change of clothes. No need to thank me—just part of my impeccable hospitality.”
The maid stepped forward, offering the bundle to Yuemei with a polite bow. “These should fit you both comfortably. If there’s anything else you need, just let me know.”
Yuemei took the robes gratefully, a smile tugging at her lips. “Thank you. And thank you, Wuxian. You saved us from looking like complete mess'es today.”
Wei Wuxian waved her gratitude away with a laugh. “What are friends for? Besides, I couldn’t let my new drinking partner start the day off in wrinkled robes. We have a reputation to uphold!”
Minghao groaned, throwing himself back onto the bed dramatically. “How can you be so chipper this early? My head feels like it’s going to split open.”
