Her heart was pounding in her chest, not just from the intensity of the situation but also from the doubt that gnawed at her. She was not a novice, she knew how to handle a sword in the modern world, but in this world... where spiritual energy and golden cores governed everything, it was all foreign to her.
In her previous life, she had been proficient in swordplay, but this-this was different. The weight of Yuehan in her hands felt both familiar and alien. There was an easy connection to the sword that felt instinctive, but beyond that she knew nothing. And her knowledge of golden cores, cultivation, or even tapping into her spiritual energy was minimal at best. She could only hope that the skills she had honed in her past life would carry her through, at least until she could learn how to use the power that she so desperately needed.
Her brother, Minghao, stood beside her, his face etched with determination, his sword, Zhouyue, gleaming under the afternoon sun. His focus was unwavering. He didn't show the slightest sign of doubt, not like her. For him, battle was second nature, a skill he had honed over countless years of training. But for her, this was all new, and the responsibility weighed heavily on her shoulders.
"I can do this," she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible, as she tried to steady her nerves. Her grip tightened around her sword as she glanced towards the beast.
Then, out of the corner of her eye, she saw it. Yuemei's breath caught. It was charging directly towards them, its fangs gleaming, its claws reaching out as if to tear her apart. Her heart skipped a beat. Instinctively, she took a step back, the uncertainty in her heart beginning to rise. Could she really face this creature with nothing but a sword and her will?
But before she could think any further, her brother's voice cut through her thoughts.
"jiejie!"
His shout snapped her into action. She glanced at him-his expression had shifted from concentration to urgency. There was no time to hesitate.
"Lets do this!" Minghao's voice was commanding, his eyes locked onto the beast. Without waiting for her to respond, he surged forward, his sword flashing through the air, it's indigo glare a contrast to the blue sky and green trees, aimed directly at the beast's side.
Yuemei hesitated for a moment longer, her hands shaking slightly as she lifted Yuehan. Then, the doubt left her as easily as it formed, replaced by a cold determination. If he could do this, so could she. She was not going to be a burden. And she was not a novice with swordplay. She might be new to the whole cultivation thing, but swords she could handle. Besides she played and watched too many battle scenes to not take the chance to live and fight in one. And if she was going to be a part of this world, she needs to get used to fighting with her sword.
Taking a deep breath, she followed him into the fray, the blade of Yuehan slicing through the air with a sharp hum. Her feet moved quickly, her body flowing with a grace that surprised her, as if her instincts had suddenly awakened. She didn't understand it-this power, this drive-but she couldn't question it. Not now.
The beast swung its massive claw toward her, and she blocked it with Yuehan, the force of the blow nearly knocking her off her feet. The weight of the beast's attack was overwhelming, but she held firm, gritting her teeth as she pushed against the pressure. Her legs trembled, but she refused to give in.
