"Dude, are you still watching?" I laughed. I looked back at Matt who was peeking out the patio door to make sure no one was coming. I then turned back around and filled a party cup halfway with vodka before adding fruit punch. I know I shouldn't be doing this but Noah went home almost an hour ago and the conversation between Matt and I started to get a little boring. We needed a way to make things fun. So we decided to sneak a little of the liquor my mother bought for the guests.

"Yes, I am." He chuckled. "They're all so busy dancing and conversing they don't even know we're gone."

"Good, " I said grabbing our drinks. "I'm finished anyway. Come on let's go back outside."

Matt joined me in the kitchen and scrunched his nose. "How about we just stay in? Its dark out now so that means more bugs."

"Good point." I said. "Let's go in the living room I guess."

I carried our drinks to the living room and when we sat down, Matt took his.

"Ah," he breathed. "I needed this."

"Honestly."

"What do you think our parents would say if they caught us in here drinking?" Matt brought his cup to his mouth.

"They won't because we're only having one." I shrugged. "I'm sure we'll be finished before anyone comes in."

"Yeah you're right." He nodded and ran his thumb around the rim of his cup, another awkward silence falling over us. This had to be like the fifth time it happened.

"Do you um...do you have a phone?" Matt asked.

I reached in my back pocket and held it out.

"Great." He smiled. He took it and pulled up the dialpad, tapping his number in. When his own phone started to ring I realized he was exchanging our numbers. "I think we should keep in touch. After all, our moms are basically best friends."

"I agree." I chuckled.

After a few more seconds of typing Matt gave me my phone back. "I saved my name so you won't be confused when I text you."

He shot me a smile that made me blush a little but I quickly looked down into my lap so he wouldn't notice.

"So..." he breathed out.

"Sooo..." I looked around the room and tapped my fingers on the side of my cup, later downing the remainder of the contents inside.

Suddenly a loud pop sounded outside, four more following afterwards.

"What the hell is that?" Matt rushed to the window and drew the curtains back, looking around outside frantically.

"Relax." I laughed. "It's just the fireworks over at the school's stadium that you're gonna be hearing for the next half an hour."

Matt sighed in relief and gave a look that read "of course it is, how stupid can I be?" He returned to the couch, sitting on the cushion next to me, and lifted my leg to rest on his lap. I stared at his hand as he traced small circles down my shin. His eyes fluttered up to mine as he said, "Do you wanna go see the fireworks?"

"Uh," I started quietly, my eyes resting on his fingers again. "N-no..I uh, I'm okay."

"Are you sure? I mean, we can go."

"Yeah, I'm sure." I smiled. "I haven't seen them in a while so it's no biggy."

"Really? You live like five minutes away."

"Seven if you wanna be exact."

Matt laugh, his fingers finally stopping only to lay flat on my skin. "So are we just going to sit here?"
