"Do you have a four?" I asked Noah. We were sitting cross legged on my porch playing a game of Gold Fish. I had gotten home almost two hours ago and there was nothing else better to do. Like I've said before, there's absolutely nothing to do on my side of town.
"Go fish," Noah huffed.
I pulled a card from the deck that sat between us, inwardly cursing because I plucked a seven instead of a four. "Okay, your turn."
"Do you have a ten?" Noah asked, bordem lacing his every word.
"Hm," I checked my hand. "No, go fish."
As Noah reached for a card he sighed, "Lacey why do we have to play this stupid game? We're not even playing with the real Go Fish cards!"
"You act like we have something better to do." I rolled my eyes. Noah dropped his cards and looked at me, his arms crossing over his chest.
"We're going somewhere, right now. I don't care where it is. Just as long we're not on this street anymore."
"Noah where exactly are we--"
"Let's go to the beach."
"Are you crazy? It's almost five. My parents are gonna be home in like two hours."
"So what? Tell them you were at my house. The beach is only a half hour away." He grabbed the cards from my hand before I had a chance to protest and stacked them on top of the deck, placing them back in the box. "I'll go get my things together, you get yours. And bring money for the boardwalk."
"Noah," I shook my head. "I don't wanna get--"
"Lacey whatever your middle name is Evans, we are going to the beach in a few minutes and I don't care if the only way of getting you there is by pulling you by the hair, you're going."
I reached up and grabbed my ponytail, wrapping it around my hand. "But I like my hair."
Noah stood up and tossed the deck of cards on the porch swing. "Then get your ass up and in your house, put on a bathing suit, and meet me in front of my house in ten."
I playfully stuck my tongue out at him and walked into my house, jetting up the stairs. As I fish through my drawer full of swimwear, I decided on solid white tankini. After putting it on, I wiggled into a pair of jean shorts, later slipping on a hot pink pair of flip flops.
Grabbing my tote, I stuffed in it a beach towel, sunscreen, lotion, a pair of sunglass just in case, and my debit card. As soon as I swiped up my phone, I ran down the stairs and proceeded over to Noah's.
"Lacey?"
I turned around and saw Justin walking in the direction of his house, a medium sized box in his hands.
"Uh, yeah?"
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"Uh," I started as I looked down the street behind me. "Just out with Noah for a few."
"Where?"
"The beach." I uttered.
"Don't you think it's a little too late for the beach?"
I chuckled. "That's what I said but Noah insisted because we--"
"Have fun." Justin said before he jogged up the front steps and disappeared into his house.
I merely shrugged and ran down the street to Noah.
"Ready?" He said pulling his t shirt over his head and unlocking his dad's car.
