Joe

"Fine, Joe. You win. I'll go."

My heart literally leaped. "Really? Aubrey, you'll have a great time, I promise. Don't worry about the hotel or flight or anything. We've got you covered. It'll be fun."

She smiled at me and I was happy for a good .5 seconds until he came.

"What will be fun?" Fucking Travis trying to ruin my entire life.

She smiled up at him.

She should be smiling up at me.

"Hey, I was just invited to a wedding with-" Aubrey began.

I cut her off. "-With her sister," I wanted to smirk at Travis but had to keep my cool. The jackass couldn't think he was invited, too.

"Oh, really? You're getting married?" He had the nerve to ask me. Very funny.

I laughed. "No, my older brother is getting married," I responded to his oh-so funny comment.

"And you've invited my girlfriend?"

Yes, prick. I invited the girl that I was with first.

"Travis, it's no big deal, let's go," Aubrey stopped me from responding. Probably a good thing, too, if I'm being completely honest. She smiled at me and I couldn't help but smile back. "Thank you, Joe. Really. I appreciate it."

Why does she have to be with him?

-----

"What do you mean you invited someone to my wedding? Joe, I will kill-"

"Kev, calm down. He invited Aubrey and Ronnie," Nick said, covering for me.

Kevin looked at me in shock. "How the hell did you manage that?"

Nick and I exchanged a laugh. "Well, Kev, it wasn't easy," I said as I began telling him the story.

-----

"Joseph, don't. You. Dare."

"Too late, Aub," I ran and carried her as I jumped into the pool.

"Joe, I'm going to kill you!" She screamed as she started splashing me.

I leaned in to kiss -

Buzz. Buzz.

I opened my eyes from my nap and looked down over at my phone

Aubrey.

"I'm sorry about today. Travis tends to get a little jealous."

He should.

"It's fine, no worries. See you in December?"

Why does December have to be 3 months away?

"Why don't you and Nick come over tomorrow and we can finish that Go Fish game that you started with my sister? I'd love to hear about the plans for the wedding."

"Sounds like a deal."

I locked my phone and didn't even realize I was smiling.

"NICK!" I yelled, hoping my brother was home.

"NICK! NICK! NI-"

"What, Joe, what?" He said, annoyed, as he came into my room.

"You and I have plans with Ronnie and Aubrey tomorrow."

Nick raised an eyebrow and looked at me confused as I smiled like a little teenage girl.

-----

"On my way."

Send.

"Come on, Nick," I said as I grabbed my car keys and we headed to my car.

"Aren't you nervous?" He said as I began driving away.

"I'm always nervous around Aubrey lately."

"Because she doesn't remember you?"

"But she does, Nick."

He sighed. "What do you mean? What did you find out?"

"You know how I used to call her 'Aub'?" I asked my younger brother and he nodded. "Well, she remembers someone calling her that, but she just doesn't remember who."

"Really? She told you this?"

"No, Nick, I'm making it up," I said to him sarcastically and he rolled his eyes in my peripheral vision. I smiled.

-----

Knock. Knock.

Nick and I stood outside the door for what seemed like forever, but, in reality, was probably only like 30 seconds.

"Hey, guys, come on in," Aubrey said when she opened the door with a smile on her face.

"Go Fish?" Ronnie smiled from the hallway as we stepped inside the house and headed towards the family room.

"So," Aubrey said as we got adjusted in the family room and Ronnie shuffled the cards. "Where's the wedding of the year happening?"

I couldn't help but smile at her question. "Long Island."

"Yes, I know. You've already informed me of that part. Where in Long Island?"

"Oheka Castle."

"Castle, huh?" Aubrey smirked as she handed out the cards. "Maybe I should marry a Jonas Brother so I can get married in a castle."

Nick and Ronnie both looked at me.

I sighed. "Maybe you should."

-----

"Any 3s, Aub?"

"Go fish," she said with a smirk as she continued to kick each and every one of our asses.

Ring. Ring.

Aubrey looked down at her phone and put her cards down. "Give me a second, guys. Take a break, eat some food, I don't know," she said as she got up and quickly went upstairs.

"Maybe I should marry a Jonas Brother"

"Joe?"

I sighed. "Yes, Ronnie?"

"Are you still thinking about what she said?"

"Jesus, of course I am, Ronnie," I sighed and buried my head in my hands. "Why does this have to suck so much?"

"Why does what have to suck to much?" Aubrey asked as she entered the family room.

"Your ass-whooping in Go Fish," Nick responded for me.

Aubrey laughed, but like, really laughed. The laugh killed every inch of me inside. It was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard and I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

-----

"So, rumor has it you have a boyfriend?" Nick asked Aubrey. I glared at him and he shrugged. Small talk, he mouthed.

"Had," she sighed and shook her head.

Did I hear that right?

"Wait, but you two hung out yesterday?" I asked quickly, extremely curious, but mostly ecstatic.

"Yeah, well, he's overprotective of me and honestly, I didn't even like him that much," she shrugged. "I dumped him yesterday. He's the one who called me earlier. Well, really, drunk dialed me."

"Worst case scenario, you can always marry a Jonas," I said before even processing what I said.

Ronnie and Nick, simultaneously, glared at me.

"You do have a point, Joe," Aubrey said with a laugh.
