Aubrey
"Aub, I've got a surprise for you."
I shake the voice from my head.
12:09.
Where is he?
"Aubrey! Hey, sorry, I got held up with the guys," Joe said as he rushed into the store.
"It's fine, really," I said with a smile on my face.
"Good, come," he said as he led me to the cashier. "I would like to purchase an iPhone 3GS for her."
"Joe, you really don't have to get me the newest-"
"Shh, don't worry. My treat."
I watched him as he talked to the Apple Genius guy. Why is he being so nice to me?
"Okay, name?" The Apple guy asked.
"Her name is Aubrey Jason," Joe said awfully quickly.
I stared at him, but he didn't even seem to notice. He finished the purchase and handed me my new phone, but I couldn't stop staring at him.
"What is it? What's wrong?"
"How the hell do you know my last name is Jason?"
He froze.
"I-uh-Ronnie. Ronnie told Nick and he told us." He responded nervously.
"Oh, uh, okay." I grabbed my phone. "Thank you, Joe. I appreciate it. Good luck tonight-or, uh, break a leg, right? Whatever it is, yeah." I smiled and nodded as I turned to walk away.
"Wait," he grabbed my arm and I turned to face him.
"We should hang out again. I really enjoyed talking to you the other night. If you ever want tickets or anything, you, uh, you have my number."
I smiled, nodded, and walked away.
-----
"Her name is Aubrey Jason."
"This new phone is sick, babe," Travis said to me, but I didn't even notice.
Why does my name seem so familiar when he says it?
"Babe?" Travis shook my arm and I snapped out of my thoughts.
"Yeah?" I looked at him.
"Your new phone is sick."
"Oh, yeah, I know, thanks," I said with a smile as I took my phone back.
Buzz.
"Look what was just uploaded online!"
I opened the picture and it was my and Ronnie's picture from the Jonas concert. I smiled.
"Aubrey, stop messing around and smile!"
"Yeah, Aub, don't be annoying."
My laugh. "Stuff it, Joseph."
-----
"So you've been having random memory flashbacks? That's a good sign," my psychologist, Dr. Garcia, said to me.
"Yeah, I don't know. They're weird. Like I just hear the voices and get these little blurry pictures in my head. I don't know really know if they're memories, but I hope they are. If they aren't, maybe I'm just going crazy." I shrugged and my doctor laughed at my joke. I smiled.
"I think this is a good sign. And you said it's been happening since the concert you went to with your sister?"
"Yes, actually. I mean, it would happen before. Like if Ronnie said something, it would remind me of something from before, but it's never been so many in such a short amount of time. Not since the accident anyways."
"Well, whatever you've been doing in the past few days, maybe you should continue doing it."
-----
I was driving hope when I got this weird, sudden urge to listen to the Jonas Brothers. I dug around my glove compartment when I found a CD titled "It's About Time".
I shrugged and placed it in the CD-Rom. A song called "What I Go To School For" began playing and I sang along.
And then it hit me.
How the hell do I know all these words?
-----
I threw the CD onto my sister's bed.
She looked up and took her headphones off. "What?"
"Why do I know all these songs?"
She picked up the CD and looked at it in shock, then back at me.
"You know all the songs?"
"Word for word."
"Aubrey, we used to listen to this album before your accident."
