Nick

"Ronnie, slow down. Is this weird? She doesn't remember songs from before her accident?"

"I mean, yeah, but I don't know. Nick! She's just remembering things."

"What is that supposed to mean, Ron?"

"The other day, after we went to the meet and greet, her and I were sitting and eating lunch and I started teasing her. She's always, okay, don't tell Joe because I don't want to get his hopes up, but she's had a 'celebrity' crush on him. I mean, I think it's just her subconscious actually remembering her and Joe, but I don't know-"

I laughed. "Ronnie, what are you trying to say?"

"Right, well, we were eating lunch and I said 'I think Joe has a crush on you' and she froze. And then she asked me 'why does it feel like déjà vu?'!"

I froze. "She said that?"

"Yes, Nick. I think she's starting to remember everything. Slowly."

"Maybe keeping Joe away from her wasn't the greatest idea."

"I agree. Maybe she's needed him all along."

"Have you talked to Aubrey?" I asked Joe as we were getting ready to perform in Arizona tonight.

He sighed. "No, she's probably been busy with Travis."

"Come on, Joe, don't beat yourself up over it, when we get back to LA, you can try again with Aubrey, and you never know," Kevin said, clearly trying to cheer him up.

"When we go back to LA? Kev, we're on tour for the rest of the year for fuck's sake."

"We have all of September off, Joe. We'll go back to LA then," I said, trying to calm Joe.

This was going to be a long next few weeks.

September 1 - LA

"Nick? What the he-"

"Ronnie, shush, is your sister here?"

"No, what the hell are you doing here, Nick? You couldn't have come through the front door?" She asked as she opened the window to her bedroom further so I could climb in.

"I couldn't risk her seeing me," I said as I jumped through the window.

"Right, so climbing a tree was the best thing to do." She rolled her eyes.

"Ronnie, listen. Joe's a wreck. Your sister dating this Travis guy has driven him crazy."

"Yeah, I'm sure. I can't stand him, by the way." She said as she plopped onto her bed.

"Wait, really? Why?"

"He's a manwhore. He just wants to fuck her, but God knows she's too good for that."

"Wait, so they haven't fu-"

"NOOOOO. God no." I sighed a breath of relief and sat at the end of Ronnie's bed. I looked around the room and smiled.

"Your room has barely changed."

"Except that now it is just my room."

I chuckled. "That's true," I smiled and looked over at my best friend. "I've missed you these past two years."

She shrugged. "It's kind of hard to miss you when you're all over the television and radio," she responded with a light laugh as she came and sat next to me. "I've missed you, too, Nick."

I plopped back and lied down on her bed, Ronnie doing the same.

We lied next to each other for a few minutes until she suddenly got up and looked at me.

"What?" I asked, putting my hands behind my head and looking at her.

"You know, I used to have a huge crush on you when we were kids."

I smiled and sat up. "Used to, huh?"

"Yup. I was always secretly jealous that my sister got a Jonas and I didn't."

I smiled at her.

"And what happened to that crush?"

She shrugged. "I don't know, Nick. We were kids."

"That was two years ago, Veronica. We still are kids."

She laughed. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

I smiled and looked at her. "I had a crush on you, too. I just never thought you felt that way."

"Well good thing you didn't."

"How come?"

"Could you imagine if we would've dated? You know how much that would've killed Joe knowing that the love of his life didn't even know who he was, but his younger brother was dating her sister?"

"Joe doesn't have to know, you know."

"What do you mean?"

I smiled, and before I could stop myself, my lips were on hers.
