The battlefield was too quiet.
"Raziel." Rok Soo gently shook him. "Raziel."
The body he was holding didn't answer. His head, tilted to the side slightly as he shook him again. "Raziel. Kim Raziel, wake up."
He didn't respond. His chest didn't rise. No breath escaped his busted lips.
Rok Soo, however, was breathing very well. His breath was coming so quickly he didn't realize he was starting to have a panic attack. He didn't even hear the approaching footsteps and gasps behind him. Until he felt a hand settled on his shoulder, "Breathe, Rok Soo. You need to breathe."
Breathe? Breathe? How the fuck could he – they don't understand what – breathe?
Kim Raziel was never supposed to be this still. He was always shining with a radiance that could rival the sun and life. He was the laughter and hope. He was the only reason Rok Soo had the best moments of his life. He was his reason and light in his dull life.
"Rok Soo, you need to breathe. Come on, he wouldn't have died for you, only for you to turn around and kill yourself by not breathing."
That is not the right thing to say. "He's not dead."
"Dongsaeng..." That voice was familiar. It was soft and filled with sadness and anguish; everything was wrong. Raziel's rapidly paling skin, his blue-tinted lips, the way his heart made no sound under his fingertips. How could he be so calm? How could anyone breathe?
The very thing that Rok Soo had ever made him believe and begged any God to send back to him, the only person that Rok Soo cared so much, was still in his arms. His husband...
"I love you. Rok Soo"
"Fuck."
"Rok Soo-"
"No." he shook his head. "No, no. Raziel, wake up! Now! That is an order from your team leader. I told you to fucking live. I told you to run when things don't-" For the first time, his team and hyungs saw him break. He sobbed and crumbled even farther into his husband's body. He gripped the body so tightly that he would have left bruises. His skin was soft and cold, oh so cold, none of warmth, smile, and laughter, and he can't-"Raziel! RAZIEL!"
There were hands on his shoulders, trying to pull him away from the corpse, but Rok Soo let out a blood-curdling scream and dragged the body unbearably closer. He was getting blood on his clothes – Raziel's blood. His husband's blood was shed for him.
"You have to let me go, Rok Soo."
"No." Rok Soo sobbed, clawing his fingers through Raziel's hair, soft and familiar. How had he never done this before? Why had he never held him like this? Why had he passed up this wonderful feeling of having Raziel in his arms, safe and whole and here? "No, Raziel, come back."
"Rok Soo, it's going to be okay."
"No!" Rok Soo shook his head against their husband's head, rocking back and forth, trying to convince himself that the trembling was from Raziel's body and not his own. "No, Raziel. Razie. Come back to me. Please,..."
"I love you. Rok Soo"
"Rok Soo, he's gone," Someone whispered like he was trying to calm a wounded animal. And wasn't that what he was? A broken man holding the broken and bloodied body of his husband? His love? he was supposed to come home with him.
He was supposed to come back and live with him as they built a farm, to sleep and slack with him! He was supposed to be beside him and develop their wish of a peaceful and slacker life.

He was supposed to go with him and visit the orphanage where they planned to adopt and have kids.
"Rok Soo, there's nothing you can do."
He shook his head, the soft skin of his husband's cheek rubbing against his own. "I can still save him. Get- get a healer and make them heal him. Get them to save him."
He heard the sobs everywhere. "We can't, Rok Soo. You know that. He... his already dea-,"
"IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ME!" He screamed, holding the body closer. Maybe, just maybe, if he had him tight enough, he could take some of Rok Soo's life and just come back.
He sobbed, his throat aching at the pain of all his cries. He didn't care. "It was supposed to be me. He died for me."
"And he wouldn't have wanted it any other way."
Rok Soo hated the truth behind the statement. Kim Raziel was all someone with a kind smile, and even a kinder soul who would sacrifice himself without a second thought.
Who was gentle and patient, lighting up any room he entered. Who was the light of his world. Who was his husband and his love, and now he was a dead weight in Rok Soo's arms, cold and still and dead.
Kim Raziel would willingly do it again in a heartbeat if it meant that Rok Soo lived just one more day.
The people around them kept multiplying. He could hear sobbing and muttering and discussing.
Rok Soo couldn't care less.
