It was nearing the end of the school year, only a few weeks left as the students from all years completed their exams and packed up for the summer.
The sixth year exams were nothing for Arabella. The whole castle was bustling with last minute cramming, the library the most crowded it had ever been, but Arabella did nothing to prepare.
Actually, she went on a shopping spree. She shopped in a few small stores in Hogsmeade, then apparated to Diagon Alley and even some muggle malls. She rather enjoyed shopping, it was a great pass time.
The day before her Transfiguration exam, she apparated to Gringotts. She compelled the goblins and the by the time she left, her pouch of coins was much heavier and not a single being questioned a thing.
It was laughable how worried humans were for these petty exams that would meaning nothing in a few years. Arabella had lived long enough to know that knowledge like this was not actually useful. The true key to success was understanding the weaknesses of others and exploiting them before they could do the same to you
And yet, as Lilith put it, she played mortal for the sake of keeping up the act. The first exam was Transfiguration, and Arabella was glad to get that out the way first. Transfiguration had a practical section and a paper exam. The practical was held in a classroom with the professor who inspected the spells cast to grade.
She was lining up with all the other sixth years when Tom approached. He still had that stupid idea in his mind that she was his to control, as if her murder to Simon was some sort of dark initiation. She played along for his sake.
Tom had been used to being the best for the whole time he was at Hogwarts. After Arabella arrived, he was forced to take second place. It aggravated him for a while until Arabella became his 'ally' instead.
But he still wanted to beat her to the top.
Arabella smiled at him as he approached. "Don't suppose I should wish you luck, Riddle?"
Tom's lips tugged upwards, as if what she said amused him. Not because it was funny, but because it was ridiculous. "I could say the same for you. Dumbledore has it out for you more than he does for me."
Arabella rolled her eyes. "He can do what he wants. We both know something will be wrong if he scores me anything lower than the top mark. He hates me, not my talent."
As if the old bastard was summoned, he stepped out the classroom to call the next student in. "Miss Chambers," he announced.
Tom turned to Arabella. A smirk. "You mustn't keep him waiting, my dear."
Arabella placed a hand on his cheek and tilted her head, her lips in a playful pout. "Don't look so nervous, Tommy. Second place suits you."
Albus coughed behind them, impatient. She spun around, a scowl on her face as she brushed past him into the classroom.
