Erica woke up to the faint scent of dior's diorissimo. She glanced at the time and saw it was 1:45 am. Sitting up in the bed, she found Connor sleeping peacefully next to her. Getting out of bed, she wrapped her silk bathrobe around her body and walked down the hall, then down the stairs.
Reaching the bottom of the staircase, she turned the corner of the staircase, and entered the living room where her great-grandmother Nettie, sat in the reclining rocking chair, humming All the Pretty Horses, dressed in a pantsuit and her gray hair swept away from her kind face, while kniting a pink baby blanket for Erica's baby.
"Grandma?"
Nettie smiled as she set the knitting down and beamed at her great-grandaughter. "Hi sweetheart. Why don't you come and sit with me?" Erica smiled as she took a seat on the couch, and Nettie stood up from the reclining chair, and joined her great-granddaughter on the couch. "Tell me, what's going on?"
"Terry Silver, the one who tortured Daniel LaRusso, and caused my accident is finally behind bars. John Kreese escaped from prison, they don't know where he is. The kids Daniel and uncle Johnny trained made it to the Sekai Taikai, just like we always knew they could. Connor and I are expecting a little girl, we're going to name her Lucy, after cousin Lucy."
"That's wonderful about the children sweetheart. I know Daniel and Johnny are proud." Nettie smiled. "And your baby, a little girl I already knew. Why do you think I'm knitting a pink baby blanket?" she chuckled and her granddaughter chuckled as well. "Now, what's a taikai waikai?"
Erica laughed. "It's the world's biggest karate tournament. Dojos from all over the world compete."
"You won't be there to support your friends and your uncle Johnny?" Nettie asked. Erica took a deep breath and began to cry. "What is it my sweet darling?"
"Uncle Johnny and I had a falling out." Erica said, then wiped her tears. "This all stems over training a student, Tory, after she lost her mother." Erica paused as she fiddled with the strings on her nightgown, then glanced back at her grandmother with a watery glance.
Nettie wrapped her arms around her great-granddaughter. "My darling Erica, when we're angry, we say things we don't mean. Now, you and your uncle Johnny have always been close. You musn't let this come between the two of you.. You must forgive him."
"I know." Erica smiled, then embraced her great-grandmother. "I miss your hugs grandma."
"Oh my sweet darling." Nettie smiled as she pulled away from the embrace. "I'm never far away. All you have to do is think about me. I know the decisions you make, will be the right ones."
