Caspian woke up before Indigo and despite all the awful things surrounding him, he took a moment to admire. Admire her dark hair that was splayed all over one of his pillows. Admire the soft sound of her breathing, the way her full lips twitched into a smile when he grazed a hand over her arm.
He used to hate the scars that were etched into the delicate skin of her throat, now he knew better. He understood that it was just a reality of her life, they were a part of her story, no matter how awful or disgusting her situation had been. He was just grateful and honored that he could be the one to hold her now.
Before he could fully think about what he was doing, he pressed a soft kiss to the side of her neck. So slow and so sweet. It was meant to be affectionate, a small show of tenderness now that they were being open and honest with each other.
Sleeping Indigo did not see it that way. A little moan slipped between her lips and she rolled onto her side, facing away from him. With her hips pressing backwards, lining up right against his pelvis.
He should have been a better man and turned away. He gripped her hip instead.
"Cas," she whispered, still sleepy, but her eyes parting. The fire in those amber eyes sent him into a tailspin. He pulled her back against his chest, only satisfied when she let out a little giggle and squirmed to get closer.
"I want you in my bed every morning for the rest of my life," he rumbled in her ear, voice low and commanding.
She let out a happy purr, turning over to face him. He loved the way she nuzzled in against his chest, but his entire body stilled when she hooked her leg over his hip.
Fuck, he could feel her heat. He could feel every breath, every shift of movement. Surely, it wasn't intentional though. Surely, this was just her being affectionate and sweet and if his desperate wolf would shut up, he would be able to enjoy it. Then, she pressed a wet, open mouth kiss to his neck and his entire body went rigid.
"Indie," he whispered, so aware of where all his blood was rushing.
He wanted her. He wanted her more than he wanted his next breath. Every kiss, every touch, every taste. Anything she would give him, he would gladly suffer for. Anything she offered would be a fucking honor. But he didn't want to push. He didn't want to expect anything.
"Cas," she whispered back, such a vixen as her tongue flicked against the line of his jaw.
For just the briefest second, he thought that he could have her. He could roll so she would be beneath him and he would help her out of her clothes. He would finally know what she sounded like, what she tasted like, how her back would arch. But he wanted her to wrap her legs around him, he wanted her to moan as loud as she wanted.
"Darling, we have guests," he reminded, though his wolf was snarling at him to shut up.
Indigo's automatic response was to pout a little bit. "It's not my fault that you can't handle a couple kisses," she said flatly. But when she rolled her hips forward, the friction was too much for her too, because she had to bite her lip to stay quiet.
"I can handle kisses just fine," he lied. "But I don't want any limits when I finally get to have you. I don't want to worry about what your friends will hear or taking too long. So, let's just keep it at kissing. Besides, I'm sure you have a very full day planned for me anyway."
Full indeed, but she at least let him go check up on Forest first. The alpha was a mess, which Caspian expected, but somehow, seeing it was worse. It looked like he hadn't slept at all, dark rings circling his eyes. He was sprawled out on the couch in front of the TV, half a dozen coffee cups littered around him.
