"Of fucking course," Forest hissed, watching Bentley gawk at Sasha.
"I have been waiting for you," Bentley murmured, his voice softer than Indigo had ever heard it.
And Bentley was something of a frightening man in his own right. He was tall and broad and had an incredibly loyal pack to back him up. Unfortunately for him, Indigo was just as loyal to her friends. When she saw him move towards the shocked Sasha, she stepped in, placing her body between them. The alpha didn't bother to conceal his snarl.
"Give her space, Bentley," Caspian encouraged.
"She's my mate."
"Yes, we heard you, but you have to understand some things are fragile and some things take time." Caspian's hands slid over Indigo's hips, gently tugging her backwards, away from the temperamental alpha.
Indigo didn't know exactly what had changed, but her heart wrenching confession had altered the air between them. Caspian was eager to touch her, to comfort, and finally, she was able to accept it. She didn't think that he alone could solve all her problems, but very suddenly, it felt nice to not have to face them alone.
Bentley still stared intently at Sasha, but at least his motion stopped.
"Well, this is just absolutely perfect. Now you can decide for yourself if you would like to lovingly throw these ladies right back at Andrew," Forest chirped from behind.
It only took one small, panicked gasp to leak from Sasha's lips and Bentley was whirling around, eyes blazing. Indigo thought she was about to see what Forest looked like with a broken nose.
"Shut your fucking mouth," Bentley growled, his voice rough and wild.
Caspian's grip tightened ever so slightly on Indigo.
"Indigo," Sasha whimpered.
"Exactly," Forest hissed back at Bentley. "So, I guess it's safe to say that you aren't going to tell Andrew a single thing about the girls who just happen to show up on my lands."
Bentley looked like he was about two seconds from squashing Forest, but miraculously, he restrained himself. "She will do whatever the fuck she wants and you will stay out of her way if you value your life."
Forest just smirked, cocking his head to one side in a boyish gesture. "Damn, I didn't take you for one of the guys who would turn brainless the second he found his mate, but here we are. I think we're agreed that all of these women are safe to do whatever they need on both of our lands. So why don't you sit down and try talking to your mate like a normal person?"
Bentley blinked, seeming to come back to himself. The big brute turned into a bit of an embarrassed disaster, fumbling around until he stood awkwardly in front of the frightened women. "Sorry, that was...that was the mate bond. But I'm Bentley."
Caspian was gentle, but insistent as he steered Indigo away from the living room where the jilted introduction was taking place. The two of them ended up in the kitchen where the conversation could be heard, but was muffled and following eyes could not see. Indigo barely had a second before Caspian's hands gripped the underside of her thighs and he deposited her on the counter.
"Hey," she squeaked a little breathless at the small, but intimate touches. And maybe the fact that their lips were just a couple inches apart. "We should probably be in there, make sure nothing crazy happens. Looks like Bentley is about to lose his head."
"Forest will take care of them," Caspian vowed, his fingers reaching up to brush a stray lock of hair off her cheek. "But I wanted to check and make sure you are okay. The past couple of days have been crazy. Are you doing alright, Indie?"
