Indigo climbed into Caspian's truck with the jar in her hands. He watched her closely as she buckled herself in and adjusted something beneath her sweatshirt.

"I don't even know the whole plan, but I already know I hate it from the way you are looking at me," Caspian grunted, putting his truck in drive. "Which is impressive because I thought visiting a spiteful warlock was going to be the worst part of my day."

"I just need a vehicle and I knew you wouldn't let me leave alone," Indigo replied, folding her arms over her chest.

Caspian felt his temper flare, though it certainly wasn't at her. "Indie, there is an insane man out there who is looking for you. At this point, I'm going to have a hard time letting you shower alone, much less drive all over the province by yourself. Now, where are we going?"

"The Water Ridge pack," Indie stated.

It was a random pack, small enough and big enough. No drama, no wars, no issues. And certainly nothing related to Andrew as far as Caspian knew. Which meant that he couldn't see whatever Indigo could.

"Care to tell me why?" he pressed, fingers already tightening on the steering wheel.

He could tell by the heavy silence that passed between them that she was debating lying or perhaps just not answering at all. But the mate bond tugged at her hard because she sighed and said, "We had a pack healer that took care of us there. He was also the one who attended to Andrew's first wife before she died. Apparently, as soon as Sasha and I were gone, the healer disappeared. No one knows why. He never said anything about it. Neither did the pack. But Sasha swore she saw documents that tied the healer to another pack."

Caspian's chest tightened, but he did his best to keep his eyes on the road in front of him. Winding mountain passes were unforgiving. "Why do you want to find him? What information could he have for you?"

Another held breath, another moment when her old ways were flaring up and she was considering protecting herself the only way she knew how. And finally, another admission. "I just want to know how Andrew's mate died. She seemed young and healthy. Everyone in the pack said it was a shock, which doesn't mean anything, exactly. People can have unseen medical conditions, so it could be nothing. But, at the very least, I want him to admit that he saw something was going on with Sasha and myself."

"So you want to interrogate a doctor."

"I want a signed confession and a video confession that is going to make Andrew's pack members question what they know about their alpha. At the very least, it could be blackmail to get Anabelle back."

"I have a hundred different ideas that would help us get Anabelle back."

"None that don't involve bloodshed, I'm sure," Indigo shot back, her tone shifting. "And as much as I want to rip his throat out, I'm not strong enough to go after his entire pack who will be well withing their rights to turn on us. I don't want any of that. I just...I just want him to go away." She laid her hand thoughtfully over her heart.

Caspian wanted the man six feet under with no one to mourn him. Caspian wanted to slaughter him slowly, watch him struggle to take his last breath. Caspian wanted him to die knowing that his secret was out, that he was not a god, but a mere mortal and had no power over them anymore. Going away was too small and too kind for what that man had done.

Still, these were not his choices to make. This was her war and he would support her in any way he could. But he wasn't going to let her put herself in harm's way.

"I'll make you a deal," he bargained.

Indigo groaned immediately, letting her head flop back against the headrest with a dramatic eye roll. Well, at least with everything going on, she hadn't lost her spirit.
