Daya's head was pounding when she opened her eyes, the bed cold without Bosco beside her. She tried to sit up but groaned instead, falling back onto the pillows. She tried to pull the blankets further over herself, but they were stopped by weight at the end of the bed.
"I was waiting for you to wake up." Jasmine said from where she sat. She stood up and walked to the nightstand where a glass of water and a bottle of pain killers had been placed. "How are you feeling?"
"My head is killing me." Daya answered. Despite the pain, her voice was a little stronger now. "Has Bosco been gone long?"
Jasmine opened the bottle, two of the small pills falling into the palm of her hand. "She should be home in another hour. She texted to say she'd be a little bit later tonight."
Daya fought back the whine that threatened to escape from her lips. She couldn't cry for her girlfriend just because she wasn't next to her. At least, not in front of Jasmine.
"Until then, I've been trusted to make sure you're okay." Jasmine continued. She held the two pills and glass of water as she faced the taller girl. "Can you sit up a little bit?"
Daya reluctantly did as she was told, rubbing her eyes but wincing when it hurt to do so. Jasmine gave her a sympathetic look as she handed her the glass. "You were um...crying for her. In your sleep. So Camden had me come sit with you."
Daya's eyes widened in embarrassment. She swallowed the two pills, letting Jasmine take the glass from her hands. "Lovely-"
"It's kinda sweet. Just shows you really love her." Jasmine sat back down in her spot at the end of the bed, picking up the next crochet project she was working on. "Did you need another ice pack or anything?"
Daya laid back down completely, shaking her head. She was certain the ice would be useless. "I'm fine." She whispered, her head tilting to the side to look out the window. She hoped Bosco would be home soon.
They sat in silence, the only sound being Jasmine's quiet humming. Daya sighed, scooping up Bosco's stuffed horse in her arm and closing her eyes. At least that smelled like her. And if it gave her comfort, maybe it would do the same for her. "What are you working on?" She asked Jasmine, wanting to pass the time till Bosco got back.
Jasmine held up a small sweater. "For mine and Maddy's baby." She said softly. "I wanted to get a head start."
Daya watched her start to move her hands again, pushing away her questionable look. She almost said that it was quite the head start, but she wouldn't dare potentially upset the other girl.
She thought back to what she had overheard the other night. She had known about what happened to Jasmine, but had only heard what Macy had said the night Bosco had fallen. Hearing her girlfriend actually tell the story made it all real. She couldn't help but wonder what she could've prevented if she had somehow met her sooner.
Jasmine held up the small sweater in front of her. "I think I'd like a girl." She said softly. "But I'd be happy with any baby. I just want to have the chance again."
Daya felt her heart sting for her. And for Bosco. "You'd be a good mom..." She said quietly, staring at the lights outside the window.
"I hope so." Jasmine replied with a small sigh. "But not here. Don't want to raise one here. Maddy said we have to wait until we'd really be able to care for one."
Daya nodded a little. "Yeah, that might be a good idea..."
Time seemed to pass so slow. Daya wished she was watching Bosco instead. As the painkillers started to kick in and ease some of the pain in her head and jaw, she started to doze off. She hoped Bosco would be back soon.
