Summary: Damian and Lian are a pair of liars.

The plan was foolproof. Foolproof in the way that only desperate, last-minute ideas could be. Lian stared at the search results on her phone, her thumb hovering over a website that promised “discreet, professional companionship.”
She groaned, muttering under her breath. “I can’t believe I’m actually doing this.”
It wasn’t her fault, really. Who would’ve expected Damian to turn her down? And not just turn her down, but to do it with that infuriatingly polite, almost smug tone of his.
“So,” she had begun, her heart racing beneath her carefully composed exterior, “I was thinking… maybe we could, you know… hang out sometime? Like… just the two of us?”
She’d practiced those words in front of her mirror countless times, trying to strike the perfect balance between nonchalant and interested.
“I have a girlfriend,” he’d said, deadpan as ever.
And instead of gracefully retreating, her brain had short-circuited and blurted out: “Oh yeah? Well, I have a boyfriend too! He's… very… understanding.”
Cue Damian’s raised brow, followed by the nail in her coffin: "Wonderful. How about a double date?"
She’d smiled. She’d nodded. She’d internally screamed, frantically trying to remember if she knew any guys in Gotham who would be convincing enough for a fake-boyfriend scenario. If her family could see her now, they’d probably laugh themselves silly.
And that was how they’d both gotten themselves into this mess.
The moment Damian turned away, Lian’s phone was already in her hands, fingers furiously typing “Rent-A-Boyfriend Gotham” into Google. And now here she was, scrolling through profiles of “handsome, charming, and available men” like it was a dating app for liars. Each profile she swiped past seemed more ridiculous than the last—professional surfers in landlocked cities, aspiring boyband members, and even a guy who claimed to be a part-time superhero.
Lian groaned, throwing her head back against her chair. She had only three days to find someone who could play the part of her “boyfriend,” and she wasn’t about to let Damian Wayne of all people think she’d been bluffing.
Except she had been bluffing.
“Alright, Lian,” she whispered, clicking on a particularly promising candidate with an impressive résumé in the art of pretending. “Just one dinner. How hard can it be?”
She tried to convince herself that this was just another mission, another role to play. She’d done undercover work before, hadn’t she? This was no different.
Except it was, and she knew it.
Meanwhile, Damian Wayne was not one to lie.
It was unbecoming, dishonorable, and entirely beneath him. Lying was what criminals did, what lesser men resorted to when they couldn't face the truth. But somehow, when Lian Harper had stood there with that glint in her eye and asked him out—implying far more than her words said—his mouth had acted faster than his brain.
