The apartment was quiet when Violet woke up – she found herself alone in bed. It was a normal occurrence these days. Han liked to get up early to help some of the vendors and clean up the alleyway or sometimes he'd go for a morning walk. Since Sean and Twinkie had left the country, Mr. Nobody had given them freer range. Now, they couldn't be seen at the races or anywhere near their older hangouts, but they were allowed to be friendly with their neighbors and the vendors.
Violet closed her eyes quickly upon hearing tiny feet approaching her and Han's bedroom. It didn't even occur to Violet that their son wasn't in bed with her. Theo liked to climb into bed with Han and Violet when he first woke up – it was a habit that they were trying to break, but after a few days with a bad cold, Violet and Han didn't have the heart to discourage him not to come into their bed.
After all, he just wanted snuggles while he wasn't feeling good.
Violet creaked one eye open slightly, seeing Theo carrying something with a balloon attached to his back. Violet closed her eyes, pretending to still be asleep so Theo could wake her up. When it came to birthdays, it was Elle who started the tradition of surprising the person whose birthday it was with a special surprise. Elle made cookies for Han's birthday and brought them into their bedroom. It was apparently a tradition Elle's parents did, so Han and Violet decided to continue it.
Now that Theo was old enough to be involved in the surprises, he was excited. According to Han, Theo was extremely excited about surprising Violet. It was the first year he really understood that he shared a birthday with his mother. He was born at 2:30 in the morning on Violet's birthday.
Theo was the best gift she could ever ask for.
When Han and Violet decided to fake their deaths, they put their future on hold for a while. They didn't know how long they'd be in hiding for – Mr. Nobody never gave them an end date. However, fate seemed to have other ideas for Han and Violet. They said they'd put children on the back burner while they raised and protected Elle – Violet found out she was pregnant in two years of hiding.
Theo was a surprise baby; they were preventing a pregnancy. But it seemed as if one of the condoms either broke without their knowledge. Of course, they both knew that could happen, but at the time, they both didn't know what to do. They wanted children, but they always thought when the day came, their family would be there to celebrate the arrival like they did for Jack and whatever Mia had. Violet was scared and upset; she wanted her sister there. Even though Violet had Han and Elle, it wasn't the same.
Sure, at one point in Violet's life, she said she'd never have kids. Then Han happened. Violet didn't mind the idea of kids or even marriage when Han entered her life, which was a big change for her. She always considered herself the "fun aunt" when it came to her future. But that was back when Jakob was still under their roof and their father wasn't killed.
