Violet played with her cross necklace as she sat on the porch

Violet played with her cross necklace as she sat on the porch. It was getting close to midnight, but Violet couldn't sleep. She had just lost her father, and her older brother had been sentenced to prison for the next two years. Violet felt like her life was getting out of control. All she wanted was her family under one roof, go to church on Sundays, have their weekly barbecues. Now, Violet had to learn what life would look like without her father and without Dom for the next two years.

Violet didn't hear the front door open; she was stuck in her head. She wiped her eyes as the tears rolled down. Violet wrapped her arms around her legs, resting her chin against her knees. She just stared out into the road, wishing to see the Charger coming down the street.

Jakob sat next to Violet, looking at his baby sister. "It's okay, Vivi," Vivi wiped her face again, turning her face away from Jakob. "You should be asleep."

"I can't." Violet whispered. "Buddy's snoring in the guest room." Jakob couldn't help but laugh at Violet's complaint. Buddy took it upon himself to be their legal guardian until Jakob turned eighteen. While they had their grandmother, she needed some help, so Buddy stepped up. But that also meant that Buddy was sleeping at their house and the guest bedroom was right next to Violet's.

Violet kept her bedroom door open, and she could hear Buddy's loud snores from the closed bedroom. But Violet also couldn't sleep because her father was dead and Dom was gone. Violet turned her head towards Jakob, "You won't leave, right?" Violet asked.

Jakob wrapped his arm around Violet's shoulders. He kissed the top of her head, "Of course not, Vivi. I'd never leave without you." Jakob knew how hard Violet's life was before their father found out he had another child. Violet's biologically mother left her in the care of her neighbors until they couldn't handle it. Violet felt like everyone was abandoning her.

"You'll take me with you if you do?"

Jakob nodded. "I'd never leave you behind, Vivi." Jakob stated. He held up his pinky. Violet instantly wrapped her finger around his. "I'll take you with me, no matter what. I'll always protect you." Violet hugged Jakob, resting her head against his shoulder. "Wanna sleep in my room tonight?" Violet instantly nodded.

"Can we stay out here for a few more minutes?"

"Wanna go for a drive?"

Violet leaned against the wall of the secret base; arms crossed with a conflicted look on her face. Violet could remember all the times that Jakob told her that he'd never leave her behind. Yet, the night that Dom won the race, Jakob just continued to drive off without her. Violet thought back to the night of Dom's sentencing, how Jakob promised her. There was a reason why Violet could never find Jakob, he didn't want to face her after breaking his promise.

But there was one thing that nagged her – Jakob sent his men to collect Elle from her and Han's apartment. If they were there when they broke in, Violet might not have Han right now. Jakob's tone told his men that they were never supposed to touch Violet, she guessed that he found out that Violet helped Letty, Mia, and Elle back at the apartment.
