THE PAST...

A girl, no older than seventeen stood at the base of her town's temple, looking up at it with a frown marring her young face.

This was her third attempt to visit the temple, the other two attempts failing exponentially due to her own cowardice and fear.

The girl had been hesitantly trying to work up her nerve to visit the small temple dedicated to the Twelve Olympians ever since learning about her father's plans to sell off his daughters in order to pay for his debts.

The girl's heart squeezed as she thought of her young sisters, two precious girls who just barely managed to hit their respective tenth and eleventh years of age.

Her fist clenched as she recalled her mother's callous response to her father's solution.

Two less mouths to feed during times like these...

Of course, her mother would not be saying those same words if the father suggested to get rid of the boys in the family, something he should have at least thought about considering they were of age, being three years older then the girls, and had capable skills to help contribute to the household and family burden.

Loud cackles from the Courtesans roaming the streets snapped the girl out of her internal thoughts and worries, making her scurry quickly down into the Temple corridors.

The temple itself was located more towards the outskirts of town, near boarder between this town and the next. It was smaller than other surrounding temples but what it lacked in prestige, it more than made up in character.

And what made this particular temple special was the fact that each of the Olympic gods were carved out of pure marble, something completely unheard of in such a rural town whose sole export was animal furs.

The waist high status were perfectly aligned in a circle, with Zeus being the very first statue visible as soon as someone stepped inside it.

A chill spread through the girl's entire body despite the small sconces lining the walls, close to the statues.

The moon, which was high in the night sky and visible due to the absence of a roof and adjacent parapet, shone brightly down on the young woman as she dropped to her knees in front of the Queen of the Gods herself.

"Oh Queen Mother," the girl cried out softly, her forehead touching the dirty floor as she prayer to the higher power "Please, oh please, head my prayer. I will offer you my eternal sacrifice and commitment if you grant me an singular favor."

The girl was met with silence...

For a minute passed...

Then two...
