Chapter 4: The Mysterious Murder

"HARRY JAMES POTTER! Why in the name of the holy four are you telling Lily about this?! And why does she have scratches all over her body?!" Ginerva Potter yelled all of a sudden. All the sounds that were coming from the cubicles suddenly became quiet. It was like a dungebomb has just exploded in the middle of the department.

"Oh crap." Lily's father murmured, glancing hopefully at the children, who all shook their heads. They didn't want to get involved in any of this.

"I asked you something!" she kept shouting.

"I ... W-We ... He ... I-I didn't tell her e-e-everything. And I don't know wh-what happened to h-her."

"But you told her the worst part! This is unacceptable, what were you thinking?! Lily, tell me what happened!"

"Mom, stop it! I have a right to know! It is not a big deal! And ... I just fell through the willow's branches!"

"Not a big deal! Not a big deal?! Believe me, it is. You are only fifteen! You can't discuss things like that, you are way too young! Oh, you just fell through the branches?! Just?! That's it! You are going straight home with me. All of you." She eyed the children warningly, then she turned her attention back to Lily. "Who brought you here?"

"I came on my own." she said calmly. She has never lied to her mother before.

"Oh yes? Than why does Scorpius have our bag around his neck?" She bent her head.

"You will not fool me. Come, children. We're going home."

"I am full-aged, I'll stay!" James said. His mother stared at him for a while, then gave him a nod. That's when Albus said, he wanted to stay too, as he came with him.

"Fine. Lily, Scorpius, we're leaving." She told them to ride the broomstick back home, while she apparated. They couldn't do it yet.

On the ride back to Godric's Hollow, Scorpius felt Lily shaking. He didn't know if it was fear, worry or bad conscience from disappointing her mother, but he simply snaked his arms around her tiny waist, hugging her. She thanked him by resting her head against his muscled chest and smiling lightly. It was kind of hot under the cloak of invisibility and the summer weather wasn't really helpful either.

As they landed on the ground, they quickly stepped off the broom, falling again. Ginny helped them with getting out of the cloak and put it back to its place including Lily's broomstick. She was acting nice around them, but Lily knew her mother too well and realized she didn't want to mention the murder because she was afraid, that Lily couldn't stand the pressure. So she acted like it was nothing around her mom, but when she left the kids by themselves, Lily dragged Scorpius to the backyard, asking him what he thought about all of that. He just shook his head.

"I don't know. I really don't. But now that I think of it ... My father's been acting really strange lately, as I've already told you before, but I didn't tell you everything. I... I'm still not sure if I was only dreaming or if it really happened, I think it did happen, but I'm going to tell you anyway, maybe you can make better conclusions than me." That's when he started to tell her about an event, that happened about a week before Lily's birthday. It was in the middle of the night, he was feeling thirsty, so he went to the kitchen, to drink some water. When he was going back, he noticed the lights shining in his father's work room. He stepped a little closer to the door and eaves dropped. He heard him talking to a man, whose voice was unfamiliar to him, so he peeked in and saw a rather short, dark haired man with a narrow face and a skin almost as pale as his own. They were talking in hushed voices, so he couldn't really make out all the words they were saying, but he did hear parts of their conversation. All the words he caught were 'more visible', 'he is returning', 'the traitors will vanish or they'll pay' and 'run away'. That's when his father shooed the guest from the Manor and he had to hide behind a dusty wall carpet to get away without being punished. As the man stumped through the front door he heard his father throw something at the wall in hysteria. And how he cried. Draco never showed his emotions in front of his family, so Scorpius was extremely shocked to hear his father sob like mad. He went back to bed quietly and the next morning his father was acting as usual, so he convinced himself he was probably just dreaming about the event. But now he didn't know what to think anymore. Did everything really happen? Including his father crying?
