Our Destiny (Lily Potter and Scorpius Malfoy)
Chapter 7: The Rumors
Lily, Jane and Roxanne are sitting at the Gryffindor table. They finally made it to lunch. After Divination they had Potions with Ravenclaws, where they could talk to Ethilena and History of Magic with Slytherins.
Lily tries to mix the juice from tomatoes with baked chicken's oil, but her attempts are worthless. She can't fight physics. Her mood has dropped low since morning, especially because she couldn't understand all the whispering surrounding her. Ever since her third hour everyone was looking at her with either disapproval either sympathy. When she would tell her friends about it, they told her they hadn't noticed anything.
She snaps back into the moment when Roxanne tries to force her to eat, but she pushes her hand away in annoyance and spills her cousin's pumpkin juice. She apologises and cleans up the mess with Tergeo. Her glance then travels around the hall and she notices her boyfriend sitting on the other end of the table with Lorcan and some girls. Lily recognises Alice and Augusta, professor Longbottom's daughters. Alright then, maybe he didn't spot her in the crowd. But then she sees Alice leaning on Leon's arm as they are laughing. She feels a tingle of jealousy inside her chest and she narrows her eyes at them. What was he playing at? Only then she realises Jane is holding onto her arm and repeating her name over and over again. She yanks her gaze away from her traitorous boyfriend and sends her a questioning glance after returning to her meal, which she barely even started.
"I'm so sorry, Lily. I have no idea what my nargle-head of a brother is doing." Lily just shakes her head and tries to hold back the tears. She feels sad, overwhelmed and furious as hell. Her head turns itself into his direction again and she notices him looking her right into the eyes. She snaps her look away quickly and asks her friends if they can go back to their dorms. Before she can explain why she wants to leave, he is already by her side, holding her head between his palms. She pushes him away angrily before she could melt into his embrace.
"Piss off!" she shouts at him. Almost the whole Great Hall has their eyes on the two.
"W-What did I... I didn't even see you, I'm sorry, baby." She sighs sharply.
"Of course, that's why you thought it's okay to flirt with other girls." He can't speak and she stands up, making the last remark of him being pathetic, then runs out of the Great Hall before anyone could stop her.
She doesn't know where she's going, but after a while she stops and notices she's standing near the Quidditch pitch. She summons her broomstick and hops onto it, then flies around the pitch for a while. After a few minutes she notices a shadow watching her and she stops in the middle of a looping, so she's now hanging from her broom with her head down. Somehow she manages to get herself back on and flies down, trying to escape the person she thinks is her boyfriend, but it isn't him. In fact, it's someone else. A person she would rather avoid the entire year.
She can't really see his face clearly through the tears, but when she sees the light shine onto the messy platinum blond hair, she collapses into his embrace. The familiar scent surrounds her and she doesn't let go for one single moment. She sobs into his Slytherin robes and he caresses her back softly, comforting her with sweet words, just like he did during summer. But when she hears him say babe again, she pushes away from him and blinks away the tears, so she can see his face.
"Would you stop it? I thought you were comforting me, at least until you called me that! I don't need another romancing guy right now, I need a friend! And nothing else." He smirks at her.
"I call everyone babe, if you hadn't noticed yet. I bet you haven't actually, you never paid much attention to me, at least until we kissed, am I right?" She stares at him blankly. "I am. So if you would excuse me, dear friend, I can also leave you alone with your sorrow. Is that what you want?" His words hurt more than she expected they would.
