Reyansh's pov.
I never thought I'd find myself not only tolerating but genuinely enjoying the chaos of Athira's family.
Yet, here I was, standing in their living room, surrounded by her family, feeling something I hadn't experienced in years... belonging. Seeking their approval was never part of my plan—hell, I didn't think I'd care about anyone's opinion other than Athira's.
But her family had this inexplicable pull, their warmth unraveling parts of me I didn't even know existed.
It was foreign.
Even when I was growing up in the Sehgal household while my mother was still alive I was forced to live a cold ambitios life. I remember how my Nana ji wanted to whip me into the heir from a young age. And was very intolerant of mistakes. It was sometimes so painful to live under the harsh circumstances that he put me in away from my mother. Trying to discipline me. The only ones who ever gave me warmth in my childhood were my mother, her body gaurd and Inara who would never leave my side whenever I was back home.
And then even that was taken away. Suffocating me in a silence that made me feel cold to my bones. I learned quickly that vulnerability was a weakness, and emotions were tools to manipulate, not indulge.
But then came my wife, Athira Roy. With completely different ideologies and ethics than my own.
She was a Roy. And they seemed to thrive on connection, unspoken gestures, and shared laughter, love and understanding. Something that was very rare. A family with no internal jealousy. A family where none of the generations saw each other as competitors and only loved each other.
Anurag Roy and Debasmita Roy had truly nurtured something formidable considering their status, wealth and power.
After the grahapravesh, Athira had been whisked away by her mother, aunts, and Aiyanna.
Dadi, stayed behind not leaving me stranded in the lion's den with her Athira's father, dadu, uncles, cousins, and her youngest sibling, Evansh. She sat on the plush couch like a queen on her throne, with a small smirk. She didn't need to say anything; It seemed as though daring me to keep up with her family's madness.
Evansh, seeing evryone get busy in conversation finally darted toward me. His wide, innocent grin was in stark contrast to the calculating expressions of his older brothers, Shaurya and Ayan, who stood off to the side, quietly observing.
"Jiju!" Evansh called out, excitement bubbling in his voice. "Are you going to make dessert today?"
I blinked, momentarily thrown off by the question. His eager eyes made it impossible to brush him off.
"If that's what you want, bud," I said, my voice softer than usual.
His grin widened, lighting up his whole face. "Di loves strawberries! You should make something with strawberries!"
I crouched slightly, resting my hands on my knees to meet his gaze. "Strawberries, huh? Anything else she likes?"
"Chocolate!" he exclaimed without hesitation. "And Chocolate ice cream with strawberries! That's her favorite."
"Good to know," I replied, ruffling his hair before standing back up.
"You're surprisingly good with kids," Dadi remarked from her spot on the couch, her tone laced with amusement. "Didn't expect that from someone with your... aura."
