TW: Tears, insecurity and pain

Everything was white.

Too white.

It was like I had been swallowed by a cloud or maybe dumped into a vat of milk. My head throbbed as if someone had taken a hammer to it, and every inch of my body felt like I had been put through a grinder.

Was I dead?

That thought should've scared me, but I felt...nothing.

Just a dull ache, a strange emptiness. Maybe this was what floating between life and death felt like.

But then, I heard something—a muffled voice, low and broken, murmuring words I couldn't quite grasp. It sounded familiar, but there was something in it, a kind of rawness I had never associated with that voice before.

I forced my eyes open, blinking against the harsh hospital lights, and the first thing I saw was my papa.

His eyes were bloodshot, his face paler than I'd ever seen, and his hair—normally styled to perfection—was a mess, like he had been running his hands through it over and over again. His hands trembled as they clutched my fingers, as if afraid I would disappear if he let go.

Maa sat beside him, one hand wrapped around his arm, whispering something, her own eyes rimmed with red. She looked exhausted, as if she hadn't slept in days, and from the way her lips pressed together, I could tell she was barely holding it together.

What the hell happened?

My throat felt raw when I tried to speak, and it took a couple of tries before anything came out. "Papa...?"
