Mirabelle's POV

I sat in my office going through some records on my computer. I had read a particular section over three times, but I still couldn't concentrate since my mind was all over the place. This morning, I felt so nauseous, and it got me thinking a lot. However, one thing was clear in my mind: I could be pregnant.

I was supposed to be happy, but I was scared that Mimi might find out. Also, I didn't like the idea of being a baby mama without a ring. What if Eugene even had a change of heart? Damn, I think I'd die!

"Why don't you buy the kit so that we can check?" Marylove suggested when I told her about it.

"Hell no! What if it's positive?"

"What if it's not? You're probably tensed for no reason."

"No, I still don't want to check, and I don't want to tell Eugene about it."

"Are you serious? Why?"

"I don't know; I feel like I'd be using it as bait for him to propose."

"Gurl, are you still on this issue?"

"Yes! We've been together for almost a year!"

"Then propose? I mean, it's a modern world now."

"Not helping, madam." I groaned, and she giggled.

"He's been acting so nonchalant; I don't even know why. Can't this boy see when I'm sad?!"

"Men are just a whole lot... but I still think you should tell him that you could be pregnant."

"No, I won't."

"I'm not pregnant!"

"Sure you ain't? So why don't you check?"

"Mary, I can't."

"Okay, then. Just buy the test kit and keep it so that you can check when you get the courage."

"But—"

"Oh, God!" she groaned.

"Fine, fine; I'll check!" I sighed and hung up.

After that call, my mind was at ease for a bit, and I could finally concentrate. I went to the pharmacy to buy a pregnancy kit. The only thing I required was courage to check.

"Is this okay?"

"Almost; add a little," he requested.

I scooped another and added it.

"Do you want Oreos?"

He shook his head in a no.

I shrugged and added some to mine.

I settled on his lap, and we ate in short silence for a while.

"I love your diamond earrings."

"My mom got them for me."

"Then you must love them a lot."

"Yeah, especially when they're in gold."

I looked straight at him.

"Okay, do you think my mom likes the same thing?"

"No, Mimi likes rubies in silver."

"Okay... I think I should get some for her then, for her birthday."

"I agree."

"So... can I invite Lynelle to the party?" he requested.

"Why?" I resisted an eye-roll. Did she have to be involved in everything?

"I really hope you guys could get along."

"Oh... okay... no problem." I smiled to conceal my annoyance.

"Are you sure?" he asked.

"Oh, I am, but like I said, it won't be that easy." I added, looking into my sundae glass.

He hugged my waist and kissed my cheek. His lips were cold and soft.

"You know, I never thought I'd see you again... and be with you, like this."

"Well, here we are... and hey, how did you know that you loved me?" I asked and he chuckled.

"I just knew."

"That makes a lot of sense, don't you think?" I pressed my lips into a thin line.

"Sorry... what I meant was... from the way things were going, and I was attached to you, and all... I realized it. You know, I wanted more with you. I wanted to be a part of your life. I wanted you so bad, and I still do, even though you're mine." I smiled and blushed at this.

"Okay," I sighed, taking in the last scoop, and my phone began to ring.

"I really like your ringtone; it's fascinating."

"You better shush." I warned, checking the caller. It was Mimi. For some reason, I didn't pick up.
